Viktor Blom: XxXx / Ax9x10xfolded on fifth street
Gus Hansen: XxXx / 10x9x3x
John Monnette: XxXx / 2xJx2xfolded on fifth street
The action on fourth street checked to John Monnette and he bet for Viktor Blom and Gus Hansen to call. Blom checked again on fifth street and Hansen bet. Monnette folded and Blom came to the same conclusion.
Hansen then briefly talked with Phil Ivey, who sat down one table over after the latest table opened to accommodate the growing field. There are now up to 60 entries in the tournament, which keeps on growing.
Philip Sternheimer raised to 5,500 from the hijack and Dylan Linde called in the cutoff for a heads-up pot.
Linde called a 6,000 bet from Sternheimer on the 10♥7♦3♦ flop, but folded facing a 21,000 bet from Sternheimer on the Q♣ turn to send the pot Sternheimer's way.
Joao Vieira opened to 5,500 on the button and Dylan Linde defended in the big blind.
Linde check-called a 4,000 continuation from Vieira on the 6♥K♣A♦ flop before both players checked through the 5♣ turn to the J♥ river. Linde then led out for 8,000 only to see Vieira raise to 26,000. After thinking for some time, Linde came back over the top for 85,000. The raising war was not over yet, however, as Vieira clicked back to 170,000. Linde moved all in and Vieira snapped off with Q♣10♦ for the nut straight but ended up chopping with Linde, who held Q♥10♣ for the same straight to leave neither player with all the spoils.
Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.
In the eighth episode, Connor speaks with legendary UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer in an exclusive in-depth interview after Buffer's deep run in the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) $50,000 High Roller. Buffer, a longtime poker player, finished in eighth place for a career-best $212,423 after kicking off Day 3 with his trademark "it's time" introduction.
Buffer talked about finding his long-lost half-brother, Michael Buffer, and becoming his manager, the early days of the UFC, the similarities between poker and martial arts, his relationships with Joe Rogan and Dana White, playing poker with Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio and the time he injured himself in a poker tournament before announcing the biggest UFC fight in history.
Gus Hansen: XxXx / Ax7x6x3x / Xx
Paul Volpe: XxXx / 8x7x6xAx / Xx
Gus Hansen bet every street from fourth to seventh, with Paul Volpe calling every time. After getting called on seventh street, Hansen motioned to muck.
"You got it," he said, as Volpe tabled 4x4x2x in the hole for a seven-six.
The completed board showed A♣7♦4♠2♣4♥ and Jared Bleznick bet 41,000 in the small blind. Robert Mizrachi reluctantly folded in the big blind but Scott Seiver on the button jammed all-in. Bleznick looked him up with the 10♦5♥4♠3♣ and chopped with his wheel, as Seiver had the J♥5♠4♦3♦.
There was some banter following during which Bleznick gave Seiver some advice - he "should never limp such a hand on the button". The word even carried over to the next table.
Seth Gottlieb raised to 4,000 from the cutoff and was called by Chris Vitch in the small blind and Dan Cates in the big blind.
Vitch drew one, Cates drew two, and Gottlieb stood pat.
Vitch led out for 15,000, which got a fold from Cates after a bit of thought and a call from Gottlieb, who said he held a nine. Vitch indicated a nine was good and Gottlieb fanned out 9x8x7x3x2x as advertised to take down the pot.
Erick Lindgren limped and former champion Phillip Hui raised to 8,000. Eric Wasserson called before Lindgren limp-raised to 35,000. Both players folded.
Lindgren then raised to 7,000 from under the gun and got a single call before Andres Korn three-bet to 36,000 from the big blind. Both players folded.
Johannes Becker opened to 5,000 from under the gun and was called by Felipe Ramos on the button.
Becker continued for 5,000 on the 3♠K♣4♥ flop. Ramos did not think long before calling.
The 7♣ turn saw Becker slow down, checking to Ramos who fired off 12,000. Becker considered for a moment but then tossed his hand away to send some much needed chips into Ramos' stack.
