Welcome back to the PokerNews coverage of Event #24: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Double Board Bomb Pot at the 2025 World Series of Poker, held at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
This event is the first of its kind at the WSOP, so it was interesting to see how many players would turn out. Play started with 1,452 players, and things whittled down to 162 by the end of the day.
Among the big name players that joined the field and were eliminated: Huck Seed, Mike Matusow , Phil Hellmuth, Jeffrey Lisandro, Chance Kornuth, Jesse Lonis, Erik Seidel and Brad Owen.
That's not to say there are no notable names left in the field. We will still see bracelet winners like Danny Wong, Nacho Barbero, Ian Matakis, David "ODB" Baker and Michael Mizrachi.
The chip leaderboard also features two players at the top who have previously tasted WSOP gold. Here is that leaderboard as we head into Day 2:
| Rank | Name | Country | Chip Counts |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Samuel Stranak | Slovakia | 783,000 |
| 2 | Robert Nehorayan | United States | 727,000 |
| 3 | Oleksandr Trokhymenko | Ukraine | 718,000 |
| 4 | Wonjun Jeong | South Korea | 701,000 |
| 5 | Robert Klein | United States | 623,000 |
| 6 | Avetik Charchyan | United States | 569,000 |
| 7 | Maximilian Marroquin | United States | 553,000 |
| 8 | Richard Green | United States | 526,000 |
| 9 | Matthew Tamura | United States | 521,000 |
| 10 | Sebastian Crane | United Kingdom | 517,000 |
This event is unique in the sense that this format has not been played often in tournaments, even if it's gotten popular in cash games over the last few years. Most of these players likely won't have experience in short stack situations in this game, and will probably need to figure things out on the fly. This makes for a fun dynamic to watch play out across the day.
The plan for today is to play down to five players. The first level will see a 5,000 chip ante from each player, and the levels will increase from 40 minutes to 60.
Stay tuned to PokerNews for all of your updates on this tournament, as well as every other bracelet event at the 2025 WSOP.

Action picked up after the players had already put all their chips into the middle preflop. Renji Mao got it in from the small blind with A♠K♣J♣10♠ and was put at risk by Wayne Palitz, who called with 9♠7♠7♦3♥.
Despite Mao pairing his ace on both boards, Palitz flopped a set of sevens on the bottom board, before turning one on the top board, sending Mao home with a min-cash. The table let Palitz know that they were appreciative, saying, "thanks for getting rid of the crusher."

Action checked to Maximilian Marroquin in the hijack, and he bet 30,000. Paul Phillips called on the button, and Richard Green called in middle position.
On the turns, Green took over the betting lead, putting 105,000 in the pot. Only Marroquin called.
When both rivers landed, Green announced, "Pot," which put him all in. Marroquin folded, and Green won the pot

Panagiotis Vafakis had got it all in and was at risk with A♠K♦Q♠9♦. Quan Tran had made the call on the flop with Q♥J♦8♣9♣ having flopped the nut straight on the top board, and a nine-high flush draw on the bottom, as well as an open-ender.
Vafakis was looking for a spade or a jack on the top board, and had to dodge a large amount of outs on the bottom. Unfortunately for him, Tran instantly turned the nuts on the bottom board, and held on the top, sending Vafakis packing.
