Updated Notable Chip Counts; Riess Doubles

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Ryan Riess
Ryan Riess

Poker's elite showed up to Event #42 with under two hours left for registration.

Alongside some of poker's familiar faces, 2013 Main Event Champion Ryan Riess doubled up versus Tolga Demirel.

As the action was picked up, on a flop of 1082 Demirel bet 2,500 from the button and face a check-raise from Riess to 7,500 who glared at Demirel who called.

On the turn of the Q Riess checked and put 50,000 in front of him enough to cover Riess who snap-called.

Ryan Riess: AQ86All in
Tolga Demirel: 9543

Riess's nut flush had Demirel dominated with the river 6 changing nothing.

Alongside Riess here are some up-to-date chip counts from the Paris Las Vegas floor.

Lonis Sent to the Rail

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Jesse Lonis raised to 5,000 from under the gun and saw calls from Marcus Shepard in early position, Yuan Yu in middle position and Yuhong Liu on the button. Robert Matuszewski then raised to 17,000 from the small blind, and all players called except for Shepard,

The flop came 28Q and Matuszewski moved all in, which triggered every other player to also move their stacks into the middle. Liu had all players covered, and various side pots were pulled in.

Robert Matuszewski: AA92All in
Jesse Lonis: K587All in
Yuan Yu: AK104
Yuhong Liu: QQ66

Liu was way ahead with his set of queens and needed to dodge a diamond to scoop the massive pot and send three players to the rail. The 4 dropped on the turn, and when the 2 came on the river and filled Liu up, he scooped the pot and sent Lonis, Matuszewski, and Yu packing.

Vitch Survives All-In

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Christopher Vitch
Christopher Vitch

Christopher Vitch, the returning champion in the event, was one of two players at risk in a three-person pot, putting his last 43,500 chips on the table right after the dinner break.

Esther Taylor: Q1098All in
Christopher Vitch: AK103All in
Thanh Tran: AKQ7

The board runout 57AK9 had Vitch tied with Tran with two pair on the turn, but Taylor had a ton of outs with her double-gutter straight and diamond flush draws. Vitch hit the top straight on the river to get a new lease on his tournament life.

Evens Shows No Fear

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

On a somewhat star-studded table, Jeff Madsen opened the betting for 4,500 preflop from the button, Gus Hansen called behind in the small blind and Derrick Evens called from middle position.

A flop of A57 had Hansen check, and Evens checked. Madsen bet 6,500 and Hansen called. Evens check-raised pot and was all in for 40,000. Both Madsen and Hansen released their hands and Evens took it down.

Leah Has Been Hot

Level 11 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Mike Leah took the chip lead into the dinner break due to some stellar play early in the event, but one huge hand gave him a particular boost.

Leah got into a three-way pot with two players all in, and he took it down, knocking Ernst Stoller and Leandro Dirlewanger out of the tournament.

Ernst Stoller: KQQ10All in
Leandro Dirlewanger: KKJ6All in
Mike Leah: AKJ5

While his foes had big pairs, Leah didn't need a pair when he hit trip fives on the flop and boated up on the river through a runout of 5953A.

Leah, who has a WSOP bracelet, and more than $3 million in earnings,
