Davies Extends His Lead

Level 22 : Blinds 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante

Alex Foxen limped in from the small blind with A10 and Seth Davies raised to 2,400,000 in the big blind with 88. Foxen just called and the dealer fanned the flop of 655.

Foxen checked to Davies who continued with a bet of 3,000,000 and Foxen called. The turn was the 6 and Foxen checked again. Davies deliberated for a minute before counting out a bet of 5,500,000. Foxen still called and the 7 peeled off on the river.

Foxen checked for the third time and Davies checked it back. Both players tabled their cards and Davies collected the pot with the bigger two pair.

Boivin Rivers a Straight Against Foxen

Level 22 : Blinds 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante
Thomas Boivin
Thomas Boivin

Thomas Boivin won a few small pots to preserve his small stack while barely any of the recent hands even went to a flop. The Belgian then raised to 1,650,000 with the J7 in the small blind and Alex Foxen defended his A8 in the big blind.

Both players missed the Q96 flop and Boivin checked, Foxen's staring contest ended in a check back. The 10 turn made things more spicy when straight and flush draws now opening up.

Boivin bet 2,300,000 and Foxen double-checked his cards before coming along to the K on the river, which completed the straight for Boivin. The Belgian carefully took his time to come up with the perfect sizing and then bet 8,000,000, Foxen folded.

Boivin Getting Shorter

Level 22 : Blinds 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante

Seth Davies limped in from the small blind with A5 and Thomas Boivin checked his option in the big blind with 109. The flop came A33 and both players checked to the A on the turn.

Davies led out with a bet of 600,000 and Boivin called to see the 3 put a full house on the board. Davies had a better full house in his hand and fired out a bet of 2,400,000. Boivin called, hoping to chop the pot, but Davies showed him the goods and built on his lead.

Foxen Stops the Hot Run of Davies for Now

Level 22 : Blinds 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante

Seth Davies limped in from the small blind with the A2 and then called a raise to 2,100,000 by Thomas Boivin, who had the superior kicker in A9. The tides changed with the 332 as the chip leader improved to treys and deuces.

Davies checked to Boivin who continued for 1,200,000 and picked up a call ahead of the J turn, which was once again checked by Davies. This time, Boivin checked it back and both also checked the 4 river for Davies to claim another pot.

The next hand saw Davies raise the button to 1,350,000 with the AQ and Alex Foxen defended his big blind with the J10 to take the lead on the J84 flop. Foxen checked to Davies, who checked it back and they headed to the 7 on the turn. This time, Foxen bet 1,450,000 for Davies to call and the former improved to trips with the J on the river.

Another bet worth 6,500,000 for the size of the pot followed and Davies folded.

The SCOTUS Lawyer Who Won $50m Playing Poker—And Got Indicted

Level 22 : Blinds 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante

For two decades, Tom Goldstein was at the top of the legal world. He argued more cases before the United States Supreme Court than almost any private attorney and founded SCOTUSblog, a legal blog that quickly became the go-to source for Supreme Court analysis. He lectured at Stanford University and Harvard University and regularly appeared on national news programs.

But Goldstein had another life. When he wasn’t arguing before Supreme Court justices, Goldstein was flying to Hollywood or Hong Kong and winning or losing millions in ultra-high-stakes poker matches. He played heads-up against California businessmen and foreign gamblers, at one point allegedly winning over $50 million in just a few sessions.

Goldstein’s luck turned in January 2025 when the US Department of Justice a federal grand jury initiated a 22-count indictment accusing the attorney of failing to report millions in poker winnings and diverting law firm funds to pay his personal poker debts.

In a new PokerNews video essay, we take a look at the life of Tom Goldstein and the high-stakes poker game that led to his federal indictment.

Big Blind Special for Davies

Level 22 : Blinds 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante

Alex Foxen limped in from the small blind with QQ and Seth Davies checked his big blind with J3. The flop came J73 and Foxen check-called a bet of 600,000 from Davies who flopped two pair.

The turn was the 10 and Foxen checked again with his overpair. Davies put together a bet of 2,400,000 and Foxen stuck around for the 4 on the river. Both players quickly tapped the table and Foxen was surprised to see that he would not be raking in the pot.

Davies Increases Lead With River Shove

Level 22 : Blinds 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante
Seth Davies
Seth Davies

The first hand of the new level saw Seth Davies open to 1,500,000 with the 66 on the button and Thomas Boivin three-bet to 6,000,000 in the small blind holding the A9. It folded back to Davies who called and Boivin took the lead with the AK2 flop.

Boivin bet only 2,600,000 into a pot of 13,200,000 and Davies stuck around to see the 8 on the turn. After some consideration, Boivin opted to check and Davies checked it back as both got to see the Q river for free. Following another check by Boivin with his top pair, Davies also took a while before making his next move.

That happened to be a shove with the superior stack and he got Boivin to lay down the superior hand.
