2025 World Series of Poker
Manelic Minaya opened for 13,000 and got three callers - Thomas Kornecook on the button, Joe Cho in the small blind, and Dianlei Zhang in the big blind.
The quartet saw the flop K♥8♠A♥. After the blinds passed the action, Minaya kept the pressure up with a 19,000 bet. Both Kornecook and Zhang decided to ride the wave, while Cho got out of it.
Kornecook and Zhang got a reprieve from Minaya's aggression when all three checked the 8♦ turn. Minaya put on the pressure once again with a 45,000 be on the K♠ river, when action passed to him.
Zhang couldn't take it and folded. Kornecook made the call and immediately showed K♦Q♥ for trips. Minaya showed A♦K♣ for a full house and scooped the pot.
Action was picked up as Charles Mitchell was all in against Hung Tran.
Charles Mitchell: J♣J♠
Hung Tran: 2♠2♣
The board ran out 7♥J♦9♣10♣10♠, and Mitchell took his chip count to 270,000.
Todd Graham in the small blind found himself all-in and at risk for 57,000 against Christopher Cooper in middle position.
Todd Graham: A♦K♥
Christopher Cooper: A♠A♣
Graham asked for a ten after the Q♣3♠5♦ was spread. He found one with the 10♥ turn, but the 3♥ river didn't help him and he was eliminated.
Action was picked up as Charles Jett was all in against Hung Tran.
Charles Jett: K♥K♣
Hung Tran: A♣K♠
Terrible start for Jett as the flop came 10♣Q♦A♠, and Tran held as the board ran out 8♥8♠.
Poker legend Billy Baxter was spotted in the field on Day 2 of Event #48, sharing poker stories from the 1970s with his tablemates at Table #530. He spoke about how he first discovered the game of 2-7 No Limit Single Draw, a poker variant in which he has won five bracelets. His tablemates were all ears, eager to learn more about this legend's rise to greatness. Baxter holds nearly double the average stack within the room and aims to one-up his second-place finish during this same event from 2023.
PokerNews was told that Anthony Malarae was down to around 4,000 chips on this very level and here he was again shoving his hand putting his tournament life at risk.
After an opening raise from Daniel Casetta in hijack to 10,000, Malarae shoved all-in from the big blind for around 80,000. Casetta made the call with a chance to finally eliminate Malarae.
Anthony Malarae: 9♠9♥
Daniel Casetta: A♦10♥
It was a coin flip and all Casetta needed was one of his over cards to hit the board to finally make Malarae hit the rails. The board ran K♦3♣5♦6♥5♣ with Malarae once again fading any ace or ten on the board.
Surprised, the table couldn't stop talking about how Malarae's luck was running. Hopefully, it continues all the way until the end.
Mike Leah raised from late position to 23,000, and Richard Basham made the call from the big blind. The flop came out with Q♥K♥7♣, and Basham checked, as Leah put out a bet of 13,000. Basham made the call.
Action slowed down on the turn 10♦ and the river 4♥ as both players checked.
Basham announced, "Queen" and flipped over Q♣8♦ for a pair of queens, and Leah mucked.
There were roughly 35,000 chips in the pot on a flop of Q♣K♠5♣. Michael Freeborg bet 14,000 on the flop from early position and Ying Zhang called on the button.
Action slowed down as both players checked to showdown when the turn came the 9♥ and the river 10♦.
Freeborg tabled A♥K♥, and Zhang mucked.
