Tate Catches a Nine to Bust Sternheimer

Brian Tate raised in the cutoff, Philip Sternheimer reraised in the small blind, and Tate called.

Sternheimer drew one and Tate two. Sternheimer checked to Tate who bet, and Sternheimer called.

Both players drew one and Tate bet again. Sternheimer called and they each took one again. Sternheimer then bet his last chips and Tate called.

"Queen," Sternheimer said, but Tate showed 9x7x4x3x2x to win the pot and send Sternheimer to the rail.

Shaun Deeb and last year's runner-up Danny Wong were also recently eliminated.

Claassen Pipped by Bohlman

Level 11 : Limits 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Christopher Claassen opened and was three-bet by Scott Bohlman. Claassen eventually got his last 16,000 chips in and Bohlman called.

Bohlman drew one, one and stood pat while Claassen drew two, one and then stood pat.

"Eight-seven," said Bohlman showing 8x7x5x4x3x

"Eight-seven," replied Claassen, tabling 8x7x6x4x2x but he had been pipped and was eliminated.

Leffler Doubles Off Yockey

Level 11 : Limits 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Heads-up on the first draw, Aaron Leffler drew one and Bryce Yockey took two. Leffler then bet from the big blind and Yockey called in the hijack.

Leffler stood pat and moved all in, while Yockey drew two and called. He showed 7x3x2x, while Leffler had 8x7x4x3x2x.

"That's going to be a tough one to beat," Yockey said as drew two more, catching a Kx for his first card and tossing the rest into the muck.

Daniel Negreanu and start-of-day chip leader Jon Shoreman are also at this table.

Mike Thorpe opened and called a three-bet from the short-stacked Long Tran.

Thorpe drew one and Tran drew two. Both players checked and drew one.

"I have an eight," said Thorpe, calling. "But I don't think it's going to be good enough."

It wasn't. Tran tabled 7x6x5x3x2x and won the pot.

Rast Gives One Up to Brewer

Chris Brewer raised under the gun and Brian Rast and Scott Bohlman came along from the blinds.

Rast drew two, Bohlman three, and Brewer one. Brewer then bet and Rast raised. Bohlman folded, while Brewer made it three bets and Rast called.

Brewer stood pat and already had a chip in the middle ready for a bet as Rast decided on his action. He took one and called Brewer's bet, then drew one again. Brewer stood pat and bet, and this time Rast folded.

Arthur Morris finally went from watching the action on the rail to joining the field, sitting down at a table with Yuri Dzivielevski, Jason Kluska, and Jason Papastavrou. He took the time to introduce himself to his new tablemates.

"Also Jason," Kluska told him.

"Not Jason," fellow tablemate Gary Fritz joked.
