The 10 turn and 2 river checked through, and Lin flipped over KQ for a pair of kings. Andrews mucked, and Lin pulled in the pot.

Bleznick’s Six-Bet Ends With a Bang

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Jared Bleznick
Jared Bleznick

One of the biggest hands of the day so far just happened in the previous level.

Romain Locquet came in with a raise to 1,100 from early position before Shawn Cunix three-bet to 2,600 from the next seat. After a few folds, Jared Bleznick four-bet to 5,200 out of the big blind. Locquet stared Bleznick down briefly before five-betting to 16,600. Cunix folded, but Bleznick took some time of his own and then meticulously carved out a six-bet of 38,000. Locquet wasn't going anywhere just yet as he called to see a flop.

With almost 80,000 in the pot already, the two players saw the dealer fan out a flop of 493. Bleznick was first to act and tossed out a bet of 30,000, which Locquet called.

The dealer delivered the 9 on the turn, prompting Bleznick to jam his was 63,900 into the middle. Locquet smirked and then made the call to put Bleznick at risk.

Jared Bleznick: AA All in
Romain Locquet: 99

Locquet held quad nines, and Bleznick's fate was already set, as he was drawing dead before the river card even arrived. The river was irrelevant, and Bleznick's 2025 WSOP Main Event was over on Day 1, while Locquet moved into one of the top spots on the chip counts with a stack of almost 300,000.

Immediately after his elimination, Jeff Platt caught up with Bleznick to get his feelings and thoughts on the hand. Bleznick, still stunned, said:

"Pretty disappointing, the way i play tournament poker, I want to get a lot of chips early, that was probably the sickest beat I've taken all summer. I enjoyed the table, it was a lot of fun. I'd rather that happen today than four days in."

San Kim and Eric Cloutier exchanged raises before the flop until Cloutier was all in for his last 40,000 on the button and Kim put him at risk in middle position.

Eric Cloutier: QQ All in
San Kim: J10

Cloutier had caught Kim making a move and was a big favorite to double up as the flop came 279. The turn, though, brought the 8 to give Kim a straight. The J completed the board on the river and a stunned Cloutier made his way to the rail.

"You should go play a cash game tonight, you'll make $100,000," tablemate Kenny Nguyen joked with Kim.

"I don't play that way in a cash game," Kim replied with a smile as he stacked up nearly 300,000.

The Curious Case of the Missed River Bet

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Kenna James
Kenna James

If Giorgos Onisiforou was hoping to play a little one-on-one poker, he'd need to find another spot.

Starting the action off, Onisiforou raised in early position to 1,300. Next to act, Kenna James called. The player on the button called, the small blind called, and of course, the big blind stuck around too.

The dealer spread a flop of 9910, and when action checked to him, an undeterred Onisiforou continued with a bet of 2,300. James called to his immediate left, and all other participants folded.

Onisiforou took a more cautious approach to the following streets. Check-calling a bet of 5,500 on the 5 turn, before checking again on the K river.

James took a moment or two to mull over his options on the river, but decided safety was paramount and checked back.

Onisiforou proudly tabled QQ, but received bad news. James had rivered a straight with his QJ.

"You forgot to bet", quipped Onisiforou. "You either had queens or kings", was the response from James.

King Ascends Late, Condemns Kanakopoulos to Rail

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

Andrew King raised to 1,200, which Tarun Goyal called in the cutoff. Button Orestis Kanakopoulos then three-bet to 4,800, which King four-bet to 18,000.

Goyal had seen enough and quickly mucked his cards, but Kanakopoulos wanted to see a flop and called.

King slowed down on the 935 flop, checking it over to Kanakopoulos. Kanakopoulos bet 11,000, and King called.

The 10 turn saw Kanakopoulos size up to a hefty 34,000. Upon hearing the amount, King took off his sunglasses and spent a few minutes in contemplation. Eventually, he check-called to the 3 river, which he also checked.

Kanakopoulos piled in a bet of 74,500, which covered most of both players' stacks. King leaned back in his chair, repeating "I do not believe you" a few times before he spent some more time in the tank.

Eventually, King verbally announced a call. Kanakopoulos tabled 66 for a measly pair of sixes, which King royally beat with his AA. King shipped the massive pot and celebrated loudly, and Kanakopoulos could not help but smile as he paid his opponent off.

Kanakopoulos was left with about four big blinds, which he lost before the conclusion of Day 1d.
