With two players seeing a board of 5♠7♠5♣ and 54,000 in the middle, Dario Dussan Guzman checked from early position and Loni Hui bet 18,000 from middle position. Guzman shoved with a covering stack and Hui called with 72,000 behind, putting herself at risk.
Loni Hui: A♥A♣
Dario Dussan Guzman: 10♥10♣
Hui's aces remained ahead of Guzman's tens on the 2♣6♣ runout, securing the double up.
Matthew Sabia raised to 5,500 from early position and Roland Rokita called in middle position with Will Kassouf on the button.
The flop rolled out A♣4♦3♦ and action checked around to Kassouf who bet 13,000 and Sabia responded with a raise to 26,000. Rokita folded and Kassouf went into his usual soliloquy, but he ultimately decided to call.
On the turn J♦ Sabia checked a second time.
"Oh you checked?" asked Kassouf, "This is weird. I wonder if you just have ace-queen of diamonds."
After taking some time and the clock getting called on him by one of his table mates, Kassouf bet 57,000. Sabia responded by moving all in for 114,000, sending Kassouf back into the tank.
"I guess if you got it you've got it," he said after thinking for a little bit longer, then put in the chips to put Sabia at risk.
Matthew Sabia: 4♥4♠
Will Kassouf: 8♦6♦
The river 10♥ kept Kassouf in the lead as he soared up the counts while Sabia exited the tournament.
Samuel Roussy-Majeau opened the action from the hijack, raising to 5,000. Jessica Vierling responded with a three-bet to 16,500 from the button. After a short pause, Roussy-Majeau came back with a four-bet to 29,000, and Vierling quickly moved all in. Roussy-Majeau snap-called to set up a showdown.
Jessica Vierling: J♥J♣
Samuel Roussy-Majeau: A♣K♠
Vierling was ahead preflop, but the dealer wasted no time flipping the script as the flop landed A♠A♦4♠, giving Roussy-Majeau trips with top kicker. The 10♦ turn and Q♣ river offered no help to Vierling, who hit the rail while Roussy-Majeau raked in a decent pot.
Mario Rodriguez raised to 5,500 in early position and Harish Gadre called before Jack Bittker three-bet to 20,000 on the button. Rodriguez called and Gadre folded.
Rodriguez checked on the flop of J♠5♥Q♣ and Bittker sized down to 11,000. Rodriguez called. Rodriguez checked again on the 6♥ turn and Bittker checked back.
Rodriguez checked once more on the 9♥ river and Bittker bet 45,000. "Ace-king of hearts, really?" Rodriguez said before calling.
Bittker showed aces with A♦A♣ and it was good to win the pot.
As the hand played out, a dealer named Lynn from Texas rotated into the table and told Doug Polk about the time she gave him a hard time at The Lodge in Austin during a $50,000 added Ladies Tournament. Polk remembered but it took him a moment.
"Do you remember when I harassed you in your room?" Lynn asked.
"In my room?" Polk reacted. "Oh at The Lodge. I remember."
The first level of Day 3 has been completed, and the remaining 2,833 players are going on their first 20-minute break of the day. Over 500 players have been eliminated so far. Here is a look at the highlights from Level 11:
Daniel Negreanu opened to 6,000 from early position and Jean-Francois Alexandre called from the cutoff. Jason Wheeler three-bet to 21,000 from the button and Negreanu folded 9♣7♣. Alexandre four-bet shoved, slightly covering Wheeler who started the hand with 123,500. Wheeler snap-called and was at risk.
Jason Wheeler: K♠K♣
Jean-Francois Alexandre: J♦J♣
Wheeler's kings held up on the 4♣9♥K♥3♦10♦ runout and he doubled up, leaving Alexandre with just over one big blind. Alexandre was eliminated shortly afterward.
Shishir Gandhi opened up to 7,000 from early position and [Removed:548] three-bet the cutoff to 24,000. When it got back to Gandhi, he put in a four-bet to 55,000. [Removed:549] didn't need too long to think before he shoved for 233,000, which gave Gandhi a tough decision.
After confirming the count, Gandhi counted out his own stack and had a little over 320,000 in front of him. A few moments later, he announced a call.
[Removed:548]: A♥K♣
Shishir Gandhi: Q♥Q♠
Gandhi had the edge with his pocket queens, but had to fade the dreaded overcards to in the pot, and if he did so, he would have heaps in front of him. [Removed:549] took a sip of coffee then watched the dealer put out a flop of 9♦4♦8♠, which wasn't great news for the Austrian player.
However, what was great news for [Removed:549] was seeing the A♠ land on the turn, which gave him top pair and left him one card away from a huge double-up. No drama arrived on the 5♦ river, and Gandhi was forced to cough up the chips and send them across the table.
Riva Arthur came in with a raise from under the gun to 6,000 with Charles Lee calling from the next seat and Harold Evans calling out of the hijack.
Arthur continued with a bet of 11,000 on the Q♦K♥2♦ flop. Lee folded, but Evans quickly called.
The 6♠ appeared on the turn and Arthur bet again, this time for 16,000. Evans immediately called.
When the 6♦ came on the river, Arthur tossed out a bet of 30,000. Evans looked back at his cards and then made the call for about half of his remaining chips. Arthur turned over K♦8♦ for a flush, and Evans had to muck.
A big hand just played out between Yiqian Song and Tamas Lendvai, which the latter recalled after the pot was pushed his way.
Song opened to 6,500 from the hijack and Lendvai three-bet to 21,500 from the small blind. Song called.
On the 3♣9♥8♥ flop, Lendvai bet 25,000, which Song called. Lendvai bet again for 65,000 on the 4♦ turn, and again Song called.
When the K♠ hit the river, Lendvai shoved for 104,500, which sent Song deep into the tank. Several minutes passed and Lendvai eventually called the clock on his opponent. During the 30-second countdown, Song called.
Lendvai then flipped K♣K♦ for a rivered set, and Song's K♥J♥ went into the bin.
Michael Zulker opened to 6,500 from under the gun and Leon Sturm called from early position. Phil Hellmuth three-bet shoved for 93,000 from the hijack, Zulker called with a covering stack and Sturm mucked 8♠8♣.
Phil Hellmuth: A♠K♦
Michael Zulker: Q♠Q♦
It was a classic race that Zulker was ahead of on the 3♠4♣J♣ flop. Hellmuth became a huge favorite after making top pair on the K♣ turn, leaving Zulker drawing to just one out given that the Q♣ was folded preflop. The Q♥ river gave Zulker his one out to a set, eliminating the 17-time bracelet winner from the Main Event.
