Eli Schneider raised to 500 from early position, and Johannes Straver called from middle position. Sarkis Akopian squeezed to 2,000 from the hijack, and Scott Seiver cold-called from the blinds. Schneider then four-bet to 16,000, forcing out Straver while Akopian called. Seiver tanked for a bit, looked back at his cards a couple of times, and eventually tossed them away.
The dealer spread the 4♥3♦7♣ flop, and Schneider jammed, covering Akopian. Akopian had about 34,000 behind and deliberated before making the call to put himself at risk.
Sarkis Akopian: 9♠9♥
Eli Schneider: A♣A♦
Both players held overpairs, but Schneider's pocket rockets had a stranglehold on the hand, leaving Akopian needing one of the two remaining nines to survive.
The 10♣5♦ completed the board, keeping Schneider's aces best and sending Akopian to the rail.
After the hand, Seiver revealed that he had folded pocket queens, having correctly sensed he was up against a monster.
Jana Pavini got the hand going with an open to 1,000 from early position. Cameron Holder called in the next seat over, and Ronald Corcoran joined the hand with a call on the button.
Pavini continued for 3,000 on the K♥3♠5♦ flop, which led to a fold from Holder. Corcoran, however, was still interested and made the call.
The 3♥ turn was checked by Pavini as Corcoran took the betting lead with a wager of 11,000. Pavini tossed in a call.
Both players checked it down on the J♣ river.
Pavini rolled over A♦K♦ for kings up with an ace kicker.
"Nice hand," said Corcoran as he tapped the table and mucked his hand.
"Thank you," said Pavini as she took in the pot.
The action was picked up on a 5♠Q♠A♥10♥10♣ river, with 23,600 already in the pot.
Karabet Keshishyan bet 20,000 from the cutoff, and Butch Jumalon called on the button.
Keshishyan tabled A♦10♠, good for a rivered full house, and Jumalon flipped over K♦J♠, showing that his turned Broadway straight had been run down.
It took almost no time, but as per usual, a player has been eliminated early in Level 1 at the 2026 World Series of Poker Main Event.
Anthony Marini picked up A♦K♦ just after the World Championship event began and decided to gamble for his entire stack, while Ryan Sands didn't want his opponent to earn an early double-up.
Maria Konnikova opened to 500 from early position and was called by Terry Mefford on the button.
Both players checked on the 4♥K♥Q♠ flop and then Mefford called a 500 bet from Konnikova on the Q♥ turn.
The A♣ completed the board and Konnikova sized up for a bet of 1,200. This time Mefford let his hand go and Konnikova padded her stack.
Action was picked up on a flop of 7♦Q♦9♦ with 1,300 in the middle.
After having clawed some chips back following the loss of a big pot earlier, under the gun player Adrian Mateos put 700 forward. Mario Escalera made the call on the button.
The turn K♦ checked through, bringing in the river 10♦. Mateos bet out again, this time for 2,200, only to see his opponent raise the price of poker to 9,000. Mateos went into the tank for a good few minutes, and eventually decided to lay his hand down.
Jiwoo Hyul was already in a hand with Mahmoud Bedoui, and the pair were looking at the Q♣4♣5♠2♥9♣ board on the river. The pot stood at around 100,000, and Bedoui was all in for his last 6,100 from the small blind.
Hyul was in the cutoff and went into the tank. The clock was called, the floor came over, and Hyul was given a countdown to act. Hyul was asking, "How much time do I have left?" before eventually calling at the last second.
Mahmoud Bedoui: 6♦3♦
Jiwoo Hyul: 4♥4♠
Bedoui had turned the straight and Hyul stood from the table when the cards were flipped. He said, "Nice hand," and grabbed his bag, not realizing that he had Bedoui covered by just 3,100. The dealer checked the counts, and Hyul retook his seat with just 15 big blinds.
This hand was picked up with approximately 20,000 already in the middle on a completed board that read Q♠7♠7♥6♦7♦.
James Mims checked from the big blind position, and Kent Frampton followed with a check from middle position.
Arie Kliper was not in the checking mood as he put out a large bet of 17,600. Mims made the fold, but Frampton was interested as he made the call.
Kliper showed the stone-cold nuts with 10♣7♣ for quads. Frampton showed A♥A♠ for a full house as the chips went Kliper's way.
Jerry Hoover raised to 700,000 from middle position, which Hartt Stearns called in the hijack before David Johnson did the same in the big blind.
Hoover continued for 1,600 on a 10♣5♥3♠ flop, which saw Stearns fold, but Johnson check-called.
The 5♠ turn saw Johnson check-call again, this time for 4,000, before the Q♣ river checked through.
Hoover tabled 2♠2♦, which was a long way behind the trips of Johnson, who flipped over 6♣5♣.
