Grech Scares Off Muehloecker

Zachary Grech opened with A9 from the cutoff to 55,000 and Thomas Muehloecker defended the big blind with KJ.

The pair were taken to the 103Q which gave both plenty to work with, both with a backdoor flush draw and Muehloecker with the straight draw.

Muehloecker check-called a 30,000 bet by Grech, and they were taken to the 8 turn. Muehloecker check-called another 120,00 bet by Grech, and the 7 completed the board.

After seeing Muehloecker check, Grech bet 325,00 into a 445,000 pot and saw Muehloecker fold.

Foxen Shows Heart, Shorr Has Hearts

Shannon Shorr opened to 50,000 from under the gun with A4, which Kristen Foxen called in the big blind with 96, tempting Zachary Camp in with Q3.

Foxen took the initiative on the 738 flop, leading out for 45,000. Camp folded, but Shorr called.

The Q turn joined the board, and Foxen barrelled for 90,000, which again, Shorr called.

When the J completed the board, Foxen wasn't in the mood to give up, bluffing her nine-high with a bet of 150,000. Shorr responded with a raise to 800,000, and Foxen quickly folded.

Philip Sternheimer opened to 55,000 in middle position, which only Zdenek Zizka called in the hijack.

The action checked through on the 666 flop, and the dealer added the 2 turn card to the board.

Sternheimer picked his betting lead back up, putting 90,000 in the middle, which Zizka called.

Both players then checked on the J river.

Sternheimer tabled 77, which proved to be no good when Zizka flipped over 1010, for a better full house.

Danchev Hangs On

Dimitar Danchev opened to 60,000 from the cutoff with KQ and Joey Weissman called from the big blind holding A10.

The pair saw a J44 flop and Weissman check-called a 30,000 bet from Danchev.

A 6 was turned and Weissman checked. Danchev bet another 30,000 and Weissman called. Both checked to the 9 river, and Weissman checked. Danchev checked behind and passed the pot to Weissman who's ace-high was enough to take the pot.

There was no shortage of big moments and big hands during the first week of the 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP).

Daniel Negreanu lost a 10:1 chip lead thanks to a three-outer in the Sweet 16 of Event #7: $25,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'em Championship. Phil Hellmuth made an 18th bracelet run that fell short when he ran into the nut flush. And one player avoided complete disaster when he suffered a brutal cooler with quads.

Jesse Lonis, the big stack at the table, used his position and stack to three-bet a couple players into folds in back-to-back hands.

In the first one, Emilien Pitavy raised to 60,000 from the cutoff. Action folded to Lonis in the big blind, and he raised to 180,000, almost a third of Pitavy's stack to start the hand. Pitavy folded.

On the next hand, Ren Lin raised to 60,000 from the button. Lonis studied for a bit, then announced that he was going all in. Lin gave up the hand.

Foxen Folds The Best Hand

Giuseppe Calio raised to 50,000 on the button with KK, and Kristen Foxen defended her big blind with A8.

Foxen opted to check-call a bet of 35,000 on the 6AQ, but decided to let go of her hand on the 10 turn when Calio barrelled for 135,000.

Calio Picks up Small from Shorr

Shannon Shorr opened to 50,000 from the cutoff with A4 and Giuseppe Calio, holding AK from the big blind, tanked before three-betting to 225,000.

Shorr called, and the pair saw a 3107 flop. Calio checked and Shorr bet 125,000. Calio shoved for 595,000 and Shorr made a quick fold.

Kromidias Crashes Out

On the soft bubble, Christopher Kromidias opened to 50,000 from the cutoff and Didier Guerin three-bet to 325,000 from the big blind. Kromidias jammed for his remaining ~600,000 and Guerin snap called.

Kromidias was ahead, but his lead didn't last long after seeing a king in the window on the 47K flop.

There was no coming back for him after the dealer placed the J turn and 2 river, and he bust out of the tournament just two places away from the money.
