Poker Pros Not Named Shaun Deeb Who Could Dominate the 2026 WSOP

Level 18 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

You can pretty much go ahead and pencil in Shaun Deeb (and a few others) among those who will, to quote Jason Somerville, "run it up" this summer at the 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP). But there are others who will shine during poker's most prestigious series, some of whom just might win their first bracelet.

The WSOP Player of the Year race, won by Deeb last year, began with WSOP Europe earlier this year. Deeb kickstarted his title defense with six cashes and two runner-up finishes in Prague. Many of the summer grinders didn't travel across the pond, including Daniel Negreanu.

Despite the head start, the reigning POY is no lock to win it again. There are others who figure to factor into the race. Or, at the very least, post impressive results in Las Vegas.

Gattes Steals a Few Chips From Neppl

Level 18 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Chip leader Jerome Neppl limped from the button, Kevin Gattes called from the small blind, and Terrell Cheatham checked his option from the big blind. The flop came out K104, and Gattes led out for 20,000. Cheatham folded, and Neppl three-bet to 40,000. Gattes called.

On the turn A, both players checked. The river 10 brought another 20,000 bet from Gattes, and Neppl called.

Neppl showed K8 for two pair, and Gattes showed QJ for the straight and the win.

Brass Willing To Take Half

Level 18 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Timothy Dugan raised from early position to 20,000, Corey Brass called from the small blind, and Ronan Woolman also came along for the ride. The flop was 68Q, and both the blinds checked to the preflop raiser, Dugan, who bet 75,000. Only Brass called.

On the turn J Brass took the lead and bet 85,000, Dugan called.

The river J brought out another bet from Brass of 125,000, and Dugan immediately called. Both players were relieved to see the same hand. Duggan flopped over QJ, and Brass showed QJ for the chopped pot.

Brass stated, "I'll take a half."
