Naoya Kihara picked up a multi-way pot that started four-way limped and then Qinghai Pan took from John Monnette when his bet on fifth street against a bad runout found no resistance.
Qinghai Pan: XxXx / Ax8x9x2x / Xx
Luke Schwartz: XxXx / 3x2x3x5x / Xx
Pan then completed and Luke Schwartz called as they headed to fourth street. Schwartz bet and Pan called. Both checked fifth street and Pan check-called sixth before they checked seventh. Pan tabled his 8x7x6x and that was good enough to win the pot.
Dave Rogers: XxXx / 2♠K♣9♦7♦ / Xx
Daniel Negreanu: XxXx / 7♠2♣10♥8♥ / Xx
Action picked up on fifth as Rogers check-called a bet from Negreanu. The same occurred on sixth.
On seventh, Negreanu put out a final bet, which Rogers reluctantly called.
"Aces and a low," Negreanu announced, tabling A♠A♣6♣, and his aces with an eight-seven low was enough for the scoop, as Negreanu tries to find some momentum.
Justin Liberto opened to 4,000 in the hijack and was called by Walter Chambers in the cutoff, Nacho Barbero in the small blind, and Chad Eveslage in the big blind.
On the Q♠6♦3♥ flop, it checked to Liberto who bet 5,500, and he was called by Chambers and Eveslage.
The Q♥ turn checked through to the J♣ river, which saw Eveslage check for a third time to Liberto who bet 23,000 into 34,000. Chambers flatted after a short tank and Eveslage got out of the way. Liberto tabled A♥A♣Q♣8♠ for trip queens which were best, and Chambers flashed K♥K♦ as he mucked.
Amidst the constant seat changes in the early proceedings of the tournament, there was an orphaned backpack that was next to a seat previously occupied by Nacho Barbero. Naoya Kihara came over to Nacho with the bag, causing the aghast Argentinian to reply, "Are you f**cking kidding me bro? You really think I would carry that sh*t around on the strip? That thing is so ugly."
Ioannis Angelou Konstas: A♣7♠5♣ / 3♦4♠9♦K♥
Gershon Distenfeld: A♦6♦4♠ / 4♥A♥Q♣2♣
Scott Seiver: XxXx / 2♠7♥8♥7♣ / Xx
Ioannis Angelou Konstas completed and Gershon Distenfeld called, Scott Seiver then raised and both called. Distenfeld bet fourth street to pick up two callers before he bet again fifth street. Seiver now raised, Angelou Konstas called and so did Distenfeld.
Seiver paired his seven on sixth street to bet for Angelou Konstas and Distenfeld to call. The same action repeated and Seiver announced two pair and a low. Angelou Konstas showed his seven-five low and the aces and fours of Distenfeld won the high pot while Seiver mucked.
Jeremy Ausmus: XxXx / 3♠7♣9♥ folded on fifth street
Chance Kornuth: A♠A♥J♥ / 6♥Q♠Q♥9♠
Justin Liberto: J♠10♦9♦ / 5♦10♣K♥6♠
Chance Kornuth paired his queen on fifth street and bet for Justin Liberto to raise, Jeremy Ausmus folded and Kornuth called. On sixth street, Kornuth check-called a bet and did so again on seventh. Liberto announced the ten only and flashed his ten of diamonds before mashing the board.
"Can I see them all?" Kornuth inquired and Liberto briefly revealed what was a missed gutshot, which Kornuth had beat with aces and queens.
Luke Schwartz: XxXx / 10♦8♣A♣7♠ / Xx
Chad Eveslage: XxXx / K♠5♣A♦2♥ / Xx
Action picked up on fourth as Schwartz called a bet from Eveslage.
Fifth street checked through before Eveslage led on sixth, getting a call from Schwartz. He fired a final time on seventh as Schwartz peeled his last card and flicked in the call ten seconds later.
"You're good," Eveslage announced as Schwartz tabled K♦10♥7♥ in the hole and his two pair, tens and sevens, was the winner.
In a single-raised pot to the 7♠4♥3♦ flop, Jesse Lonis checked in the cutoff and then called a bet worth 3,500 by Chance Kornuth on the button. They opted to check the J♣ on the turn and Lonis bet the 9♠ river for 20,000 to force a fold from Kornuth.
2024 PPC champion Daniel Negreanu was in a bright mood as this event kicked off — greeting new table edition Esther Taylor with an "E F***IN' TAY!" — but he was left silent after a big no-limit Hold'em hand against Chris Brewer.
Qinghai Pan started the action by raising to 3,000 in the hijack as Brewer called on the button. Negreanu three-bet to 18,000 in the small blind, and Pan folded while Brewer called.
Negreanu continued with a bet on the flop of J♠K♠8♦ and Brewer called. Negreanu then bet 38,000 on the 2♠ turn and Brewer again called.
The 7♦ river completed the board and Negreanu bet 60,000. Brewer sat still before smoothly moving out a stack of green 25,000 chips for a raise to 175,000. Negreanu thought it through and called, only to muck as Brewer turned over 9♠8♠ for a flush.
Negreanu won't even get a chance to win those chips back as he racked up his remaining stack and moved to another table.
Brewer discussed the hand with the table afterward, revealing that he didn't like playing a big pot so early and may have folded if Negreanu raised on the river, despite only having about 22,000 behidn. But he couldn't blame Negreanu for paying off his flush.
"I think I'm the most likely to not have it," he said.
EDIT: Brewer has moved to Negreanu's new table and is seated to his immediate right.
