Thung Hits Quads to Knock Out Johnson

Level 15
Marco Johnson
Marco Johnson

Seven Card Stud

Roy Thung: 87 / 8768 / 8
Luke Schwartz: XxXx / KJA folded on fifth street
Marco Johnson: J9 / J396 / 5

Five ways on fourth street, Paul Volpe and Gus Hansen folded when Marco Johnson bet. Roy Thung and Luke Schwartz called with the latter then checking fifth street. Johnson bet again and Thung went into a brief tank before he raised, which forced out Schwartz.

Johnson checked his stack behind carefully and then moved all-in for another 40,000 on top, which Thung called.

"Do you have a straight?" Johnson asked before the cards were flipped over but then discovered that he was actually ahead with jacks and nines against the eights and sevens of Thung. On sixth street, Thung improved to eights full and Johnson failed to improve himself.

While Johnson was sweating his last card, Thung had already flipped over his last card which happened to be the case eight for quads to leave Johnson drawing dead.

Marco Johnson pushed all-in for 146,000 from an early position and Roy Thung in the big blind was the last player to fold.

One hand later, Phil Ivey raised to 27,000 and then called the shove by John Monnette in the big blind for 123,000.

John Monnette: A7 All in
Phil Ivey: KQ

The J97 flop kept Monnette in the lead but Ivey added four outs with his gutshot. Nothing changed on the 9 turn but the Q river gave Ivey the superior two pair, sending Monnette to the rail near the end of the second level.

2-7 Lowball Triple Draw

Gus Hansen raised in the cutoff, Alexander Kostritsyn three-bet on the button, and Roy Thung tossed in a four-bet from the small blind. Hansen folded before the draw, while Kostritsyn called.

Thung bet, and Kostritsyn tabled a pair before he folded.

Kostritsyn was left with just 26,000, which he committed the next hand from the cutoff. Thung raised on the button, getting the pot heads up. Thung remained pat throughout the three draws, with Kostritsyn taking two, then one, and finally one again on the last draw.

Alexander Kostritsyn: 8x6x3x2x All in
Roy Thung: 9x7x6x3x2x
