Event #6: High Roller for One Drop - $111,111 No-Limit Hold'em

Day 2 Completed

$1 Million One Drop Winners Colman, Esfandiari Among 23 Left

Level 15 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari

The $111,111 High Roller for One Drop is near the money bubble, as just 23 players remain with 20 places paid. It's a star-studded field, as expected.

Two of those stars are former winners of the event, although each took it down when the buy-in was $1 million. Both 2012 champ Antonio Esfandiari and 2014 champ Dan Colman remain in the event after Day 2. Esfandiari finished the night with 2,105,000, while Colman bagged 4,100,000.

The two former champs went in opposite directions at the end of the night.

Esfandiari got Scott Seiver all in for 40 big blinds late, with "The Magician" holding pocket kings and Seiver pocket queens. The flop was clean enough for Esfandiari, but Seiver ran out a queen-high straight on the turn and river to double up.

Colman can thank a stroke of great fortune for his continued presence. He shoved with a little over 20 big blinds in the cutoff when Charlie Carrel opened on his right during Level 16 (30,000/60,000/10,000), the last of the night. Behind him, a nightmare scenario unfolded, as both David Peters on the button and big blind Haralabos Voulgaris proceeded to get stacks in.

Luckily for Colman, his ace-two of clubs was actually fairly live against pocket kings (Voulgaris) and pocket queens (Peters). The flop brought a gutter for Colman, and he turned a wheel to triple up and leave Peters and Voulgaris on fumes. Voulgaris proceeded to bag after doubling through Peters, though.

Leading the remaining 23 is French superstar Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier. He bagged 7,040,000 at the close of play, good for a solid lead of about one million over second-place Dario Sammartino (6,080,000).

Grospellier chipped up on the featured table in a late stretch that was largely seen by only the PokerGo stream audience. One thing is certain: He got the best of Phil Hellmuth enough to be on the receiving end of an infamous "Poker Brat" rant. In one late hand, Grospellier got Hellmuth to fold trip queens with a turn check-raise semi-bluff on a straight draw. Hellmuth mucked and then expressed his frustration when ElkY showed.

The hand, along with a Sammartino four-bet bluff that got Hellmuth to lay down pocket tens, left him fuming well after players had bagged. Hellmuth finished with 2,870,000.

Seiver, Martin Jacobson, Doug Polk, Phil Galfond and Byron Kaverman were some of the others making it through. Some of those falling on Day 2 included Ben Tollerene, Antanas "Tony G" Guoga, Isaac Haxton, Dan Smith, Bryn Kenney and 888poker Ambassador Dominik Nitsche.

One other major development during Day 2 was the release of the prize pool at the close of registration with 130 players entered. The winner will bank $3,686,865 this year, and a min-cash in 20th will pay $166,666.

Day 3 gets rolling at 2 p.m. Sunday, with coverage right back here on PokerNews.

David Peters and Koray Aldemir Eliminated to End Day 2

Level 15 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

David Peters raised all in from the button for about 900,000, and Haralabos Voulgaris called all in from the big blind for slightly less with {10-}{10-}, racing with Peters' {A-}{J-}. A third ten hit the board, Peters couldn't catch up, and Voulgaris scored the double. Down to about 60,000, Peters busted the following hand.

Meanwhile, Koray Aldemir busted at the feature table to leave just 23 players remaining for Day 3 on Sunday.

Sammartino Busts Schulman in Huge Flip

Level 15 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

The following hand occurred a half hour ago and was broadcast on the stream.

One hand after he chased away Phil Hellmuth by four-betting {q-}{j-} against pocket tens preflop, Dario Sammartino opened for a raise under the gun to 125,000. Rainer Kempe called, and Nick Schulman fired in a reraise to 550,000 in the big blind. Sammartino shoved, and Schulman called for 2,280,000 after Kempe folded.

Sammartino: {q-}{q-}
Schulman: {a-}{k-}

The race went Sammartino's way, as {9-Spades}{10-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} hit the felt. He collected a huge pot to move into the chip lead.

Seiver Sucks Out in Huge Pot

Level 15 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Scott Seiver
Scott Seiver

Antonio Esfandiari opened the button for 135,000, and big blind Scott Seiver three-bet to 475,000 with a total stack of 2,350,000. It wasn't for long before all the chips ended up in the middle between the two, as another raise and snap-call followed.

Antonio Esfandiari: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}
Scott Seiver: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

The board ran out {J-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {10-Clubs}, and Seiver made a straight to double up.

"Are you #$%&* kidding me?!" Esfandiari said while he got up from the table in agony.

"Yes!" Seiver said with a tempered voice.

"They do it to me every single time!" the One Drop 2012 champ for over $18 million said.

Grospellier Gets Hellmuth to Fold the Best Hand

Level 15 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Phil Hellmuth raised to 135,000 from the cutoff and Bertrand Grospellier called from the big blind.

The flop came down {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} and Grospellier checked to Hellmuth who bet 100,000. Grospellier check-raised to 285,000, Hellmuth reraised to 470,000 and Grospellier called.

The turn was the {3-Hearts}, Grospellier checked and Hellmuth bet 460,000. After a little while mulling it over, Grospellier check-raised again. This time he made it 1,200,000 and Hellmuth muttered to himself quite a bit before he folded.

Grospellier showed {J-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and Hellmuth shot up from his chair in disbelief, as Grospellier collected the pot.

Colman Triples Up in Massive Pot

Level 15 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Dan Colman
Dan Colman

Charlie Carrel opened for 125,000 in middle position, and Dan Colman moved all in from the cutoff. David Peters got the count: 1,350,000. He shoved from the button, and Haralabos Voulgaris put in his stack in the big blind. Carrel mucked.

Colman: {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Peters: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Voulgaris: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}

The flop came {7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades}, giving Colman some outs with a straight draw. He wasted no time getting there as a {3-Clubs} hit the turn, leaving everyone dead to a chop. The river was a {j-Diamonds}.

Peters and Voulgaris paid off Colman, and then Peters sent Voulgaris 450,000.

"Aces. Call!"

Level 15 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

"Aces, call!" is what we heard Andrew Robl say. We rushed over to his table and were just in time for him to show {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} from the button. His unlucky opponent was David Peters who had {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} under the gun. The board ran out {2-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{2-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and Robl doubled his 1.9-million-chip stack. Peters down to 2.96 million.
