Andrew "LuckyChewy" Lichtenberger Here to Defend His Title

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Spotted among the tons of notables still in the field was Andrew "LuckyChewy" Lichtenberger, who evidently registered late and took his seat not too long ago.

Lichtenberger won this very event last year for $569,158, topping a field of 1,125 unique entries. It was his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet, adding to his live earnings totaling over $8.5 million. He also has several High Roller wins, along with a WSOP circuit ring after taking down the $5,150 Main Event in Las Vegas in 2010.

It's still early in the tournament, and there is lots of play left, so keep following the defending champion's progress while he tries to win this event in back-to-back years.

Valentin Vornicu Doubles With a Set

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

On a board reading {k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}, with about 8,000 in the pot already, the player under the gun bet 6,000, and Valentin Vornicu called from late position.

The turn was the {10-Diamonds}, and the under-the-gun player bet 15,000. Vornicu tossed out a single chip to call for his last 11,700 and tabled {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for a set of fours. His opponent tabled {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} for top pair and was drawing dead to the {8-Clubs} on the river.

Vornicu now sits on triple the starting stack.
