The second starting day of the 2018 World Series of Poker International Circuit $500 Opening Event at The Star in Sydney saw a slightly larger field emerge in the stunning poker room. After 12 levels of 40 minutes each, the tournament screens showed 301 entries, which boosts the total field to 597 entries.
Once again 56 players bagged up chips and it was Adam Ratten that jumped to the overall lead with 199,400, edging Nurlan Boobekov who claimed 178,200 and Nick Velcic with 169,500 rounding out the top three. Further big stacks include Shelly Pooley (148,000), Jesse Cochrane (139,400), Richard Kellett (139,200), Sean Dorgan (133,000) and Zac Duce (129,700).
Antonis “Toothpick Tony” Kambouroglou finished Day 1b with a respectable 103,800 after making some miraculous calls throughout the day in tricky spots. Other notables that made it through include Suzy Khoueis (100,400), Dan Smith (63,600) and Jerome Tan (39,000).
Some players too not make it through the day include; Andrew Scarf, Robert Damelian, Michael O’Grady, Julian Powell, Reza Vakili, Chad Awerbuch and Daniel Laidlaw.

The board read and Nick Velcic was facing an all-in call totalling 33,000 from his opponent.

The dealer came through and dropped the on the river to see Velcic scoop the pot with a straght.

With around 50,000 already in the pot and the board showing Antonis Kambouroglou checked over to Andrew Hay who moved all in for his remaining 29,000 in chips. Kambouroglou pondered for a minute and called.
Hay reluctantly tabled his for a pair of deuces and was shocked when Kambouroglou flipped over for a higher pair.

With the board showing the player in middle position bet 4,500. Shelly Pooley was the other player in the hand and called from the hijack.
The completed the board and the player in middle position fired out 7,500. Pooley called shortly after. She then watched as her opponent tabled [kq] for ace-high before she revealed for a pair and the winning hand.

On a flop of the player in the small blind checked as did Antonis Kambouroglou on the button.
The turn came the and the small blind bet 4,000. Kambouroglou called.
As soon as the dropped on the river the small blind bet out 30,000 which had Kambouroglou's stack of 18,500 covered. Kambouroglou thought for a moment then slid his stack in for a call.
"Queen-high," said Kambouroglou's opponent, before tabling .
Kambouroglou then rolled over his confidently and took down the pot with two pair.
