Sitar Swan Song

Jamie "TheChronic420" Rosen raised to 850 and both Juha Helppi and another opponent called. Dustin Sitar, however, reraised from the button, not leaving himself a great deal behind. Rosen re-popped it to cover him, Helppi and his fellow caller got out of their way, and they were on their backs.

Sitar: {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}
Rosen: {6-Clubs} {6-Spades}

Then followed the most exciting board possible, in that it came out {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {K-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}.

Thus Sitar is eliminated, and Rosen adds another handful to his already chip-leading stack.

"Why Do I Get Myself in These Spots?"

A different more happy look from earlier
A different more happy look from earlier
Last year's runner-up, John Tabatabai, made a standard raise from the button and Jo Remme made the call from the small blind.

Both players checked the {A-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {10-Clubs} flop before Remme led out for 1,500 on the {8-Diamonds} turn. Tabatabai made the call so we headed to the {9-Spades} river. Remme then moved all in for 5,500.

Tabatabai dwelled for an age and tried to speak, as he does, to his opponent in an attempt to get a read. He then tilted his head upwards and said, "Why do I get my myself in these situations?"

He ended up making the call but mucked when Remme tabled {9-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} for a rivered set.

Tabatabai's look said it all and he now nurses a 17,600 stack. Remme is on 16,300.

Keys Pushes Shorter Stacks Around

With his newfound decent stack, James Keys wasted no time in putting Thomas Merved into a difficult situation. Keys bet out 1,900 on the {A-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {K-Spades} flop, only for Merved to minimum-raise, leaving himself less than 7,000 behind.

Keys dwelled for a while, and dwelled some more, during which time I enjoyed a brief conversation with Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott and Neil Channing, concerning the current chip leaders, the ups and downs of the poker blogging/poker playing lifestyle, and the state of Channing's stack (around 15,000 currently). Then Keys reraised to cover Merved.

Merved now dwelled for a similarly long time, although the conversation rather died at this point, and eventually folded. A single railer applauded, briefly. Keys is now up to 24,000.

Hasta la Vista, Juan!

A very aggressive Brian Powell has just eliminated Juan Carlos Mortensen from the Main Event.

Powell had been raising practically every other hand before this one came up. Powell opened the pot with a raise to 850 and when the action got around to Mortensen, he moved all in for a total of 5,500. Powell made the call and found himself racing with {A-Spades} {9-Spades} against Mortensen's {4-Spades} {4-Hearts}.

The board then ran out {9-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {6-Diamonds} giving Powell trips and cementing Mortensen's exit.

Powell stacked up approximately 23,000 in chips after the hand.

No Third Barrel?

"You bluff me?"
"You bluff me?"
Table chip leader, Florian Langmann, made a raise from early position and Nedad Medic was the only one to take him on from the small blind. The call call and then we saw a {A-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {2-Spades}.

Medic check-called a 1,200 bet and then a 2,300 on the flop and on the {k-Hearts} turn respectively before Langmann slowed down on the river of {7-Spades} and checked behind Medic.

Medic tabled {A-Clubs} {9-Clubs} and Langmann insta-folded. Medic is steadily growing and is up to 31,000.

"Sbrugby" Wins Scrum; Up to 27K

Brian "sbrugby" Townsend has just returned to a black figure after eliminating an opponent from the Main Event. Townsend got the best of a preflop all-in confrontation when his {A-Spades} {K-Spades} held off his opponent's {J-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}, as the board filled out {9-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {6-Spades}.

Townsend sits with approximately 27,000 in chips after the hand.

Lucky Nguyen

Scotty Nguyen, baby
Scotty Nguyen, baby
Some timely good luck for Scotty Nguyen. His stack dwindling, he raised to 1,100 in early position. The only taker was Cedric Kolstad in the small blind, who flatted.

Flop: {K-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} -- check, check.

Turn: {6-Clubs} -- now Kolstad bet out, and Nguyen called behind.

River: {10-Hearts} and it was check, check again.

Nguyen turned over {K-Spades} {Q-Clubs} for two pair -- and was very surprised to see Kolstad flip over an outdrawn {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}.

When I asked Kolstad for his name, he took out his credit card to show me how it was spelled. Piped up Scotty, "You haven't win yet and they already ask you for ID."

Jani Sniffs Out a Bluff

With the board reading {10-Spades} {10-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {2-Clubs} on the turn, Jani Sointula bet 1,100, Daniel Colman raised to 3,600 and Sointula called. The river was the {9-Spades}. Sointula checked and faced a 7,000 bet from Colman. After some careful consideration, he made the call and turned up {J-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} for jacks and tens. Colman could show only {4-Hearts} {4-Clubs} and Sointula took down the pot.

Negreanu Gets the Post-Dinner Action Rolling

Kid Poker

While the rest of the room still appears to be in a food coma, action took off right away over at Table Negreanu.

David Booth opened from the button, Daniel Negreanu called from the small blind and the big blind came along as well. The flop was {A-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {3-Spades}. Negreanu bet 1,200.

"Is this where you 'float' me?" teased Negreanu. "I'm learning your lingo."

Booth made the call.

The turn was the {2-Clubs} and Negreanu bet another 2,600. Booth called again. The river fell the {J-Diamonds}. Negreanu considered for a moment before firing out another 5,200.

"It's too late, you can't float on the river. Hard to float if I bet every street!" laughed Negreanu.

"I think you know what I have," said Booth quietly.

"Honestly, I have no idea what you have. I really don't!" replied Negreanu.

Booth's cards went into the muck and Negreanu collected the pot.

"Seriously, I really didn't know," he said as he stacked his chips.
