Tabata-bye

They say poker's all about timing, but so's blogging, so when I I greeted John Tabatabai with a "Hey mate, how's it going?" my timing was a little off as he immediately rose from his seat chipless after losing a showdown. The hand? I didn't dare ask.

Hylton Slips to 4-Star Stack

Hylton Goss got himself in a spot of bother after betting out 700 on the turn of a {7-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} board, only for his opponent to move all in for 3,300 total. A good few minutes of dwelling, huffing and puffing ensued, which culminated in Goss laying it down.

Juanda Doubles Through

I joined the action with the flop reading {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Spades} and a bet of 550 before Juanda. Whilst I assumed the decision lay on the other player, Juanda then questioned my judgment by pushing in his remaining chips (3,300 total) and flipping {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}. With my Columbo coat on, I concluded that his opponent, who tabled {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}, must have announced all-in and put the decision on Juanda. Either way, the pair held on a blank {2-Clubs} turn and {9-Spades} river and last year's Main Event champ doubled through.

Latimer Late

Oh dear, one Adam Latimer has only just appeared to claim his seat after just plain old assuming that this tournament started at 2pm. Nevertheless, he's got his full 3,000 starting stack, which, as his girlfriend noted at the rail, "Is more than Nik Persaud's got."

Cagey Play

Due to the layout of the tables, it's difficult to watch multiple tables simultaneously and keep eyes peeled for big pots. However, I did at least spot a semi-interesting hand involving John Tabatabai and Luke Trottman. With Trottman raising it up to 250 from the cut-off and the button flat calling, Tabatabai made it 700, and Trottman called. The button side-stepped out of the way leading to a {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop, which was checked, as was the {3-Spades} turn. On the {10-Clubs} river, Tabatabai paused suddenly, before eventually opting to check. Trottman also checked, and showed {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, but Tabatabai had {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, thus explaining the hesitation on the river.

It's only a small increase, but each chip is crucial at this stage - Tabatabai now on 3,400.
