Ivey Update

For all you Ivey fans out there - of which I believe there are many - your man is the chip leader and currently receiving a massage to his left thigh. Ever since I saw Patrik Antonius having his ear lobes massaged last year, I've held an unhealthy fascination of different massage techniques, and firmly believe that the thigh, as one of the biggest muscles on the body, is foolishly overlooked. Ivey, however, knows the score, as the masseuse is really attacking that area of the body.

Pity the Poor Lambs

One can't help but feel a little sorry for the other folks seated at Phil Ivey and Arnaud Mattern's table. Mattern has 8,000 in chips, Ivey, despite only showing up around an hour ago, is up to 11,000, and everyone else at the table is sitting with their respective heads in their respective hands, looking glum and probably praying for aces. Yikes.

Boeree Eliminated

"Aces versus tens," reported Liv Boeree dejectedly to a friend on the neighbouring table.

As I neared, I learned that Boeree was down to 125, and braced to go all in under the gun on the next very next hand, which indeed she did.

With UTG+1 and UTG+4 both limping, the next player made it 500 to go. Feguson called from the button, only for UTG+1 to reraise to 2,000.

Everyone folded leaving Boeree heads-up against just one player and with great value for her 125, but the knowledge that her paltry {10-Hearts}{2-Clubs} is going to have to somehow overcome what is surely an overpair.

UTG+1 did indeed show a monster in {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}, and although the {6-Spades}{10-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop offered a glimmer of hope for Boeree, the {A-Hearts} turn banged in an abrupt final nail and Boeree was done.

Timinator Needs Your Chips and Your Motorcycle

Ok, no actual motorcycles were in any way involved, but Tim "The Timinator" Blake, who final-tabled the Irish Open a couple years back, is up to 7,500 after flopping a monster and avoiding redraws to a bigger monster from his opponent.

Mr. Opponent seems to have min-raised preflop and Blake called to see an {8-Hearts} {10-Spades} {10-Hearts} flop. Blake check-called on the flop, and then checked again on the {5-?} turn -- but this time when Mr. Opponent bet 700, Blake made it 2,100 to go. Eventually Mr. Opponent laid it down, leaving himself with 2,200 in chips.

Blake showed him {8-Spades} {8-Diamonds} in the hole for a flopped full house. Mr. Opponent revealed that he had been holding {J-Hearts} {9-Hearts} for a straight flush draw.

Garfield Survives

I spotted Rob Garfield moving in for his last 750 into a pot of 1,875 and a board of {2-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. His opponent gave him a staredown, to which Garfield simply returned with a relaxed smile. Eventually, the hand was relinquished and Garfield took the pot.

Phew for Hugh

With multiple lilac (500) chips in the middle, I raced over to Simon Trumper's table to see Hugh Kirton reaching an {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}{2-Spades} against one other opponent in the cut-off. Without delay, Kirton announced all in, leaving his foe in somewhat of a quandy.

After a long pause and more facial expressions than Jim Carey, the recipient folded with a grimace and Kirton took the pot.

"Horrible flop for kings," probed Trumper, to which a nod was returned with an accompanying sigh of frustration. "We were chopping," added Kirton, "although I guess I had the backdoor flush draw if you had the two red kings."

Kirton, who finished fourth in the inaugural iPoker monthly event this month, is now on 7,500.

More for Maier

Lana Maier, who turned up at this WSOPE for professional research and development purposes of one kind or another and accidentally ended up playing today's event instead, is up to 7,100.

"How did you get all those?" inquired I.

"Flipped," was her straightforward reply. "Against him," pointing to a young gentleman across the table who was down to just a few hundred chips.

"Hello," said the unfortunate gentleman, waving cheerfully. "Rub it in, why don't you."

A-Net Profit = Zero

Annette Obrestad was down to her last 1,800 or so when she shoved to a raise and a call in front holding {A-?} {J-?}. One of the two gentlemen involved in the hand called with {K-?} {Q-?}, hit, and it was an early night for Ms. Obrestad.
