Volper Victimizing Joentausta

With 10,800 in the pot and a flop of {3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}, Nikolay Volper bet pot and then called off for approximately 10,000 more when Aku Joentausta put in a raise. "No pair," Joentausta said as he tabled his draw-heavy {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Volper then revealed {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}{A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. Much to Joentausta's dismay, the {4-Spades} turn and {A-Hearts} river both blanked and Volper doubled.

A few hands later, Volper bet nearly 20,000 on the river card and Joentausta called. Volper rolled over a rivered full house and Joentausta was left shaking his head as his once prominent stack had been reduced to 37,000 in a matter of minutes.

Fabien Perrot Eliminated in 15th Place (€3,752)

We didn't catch the hand, but we do know that Fabien Perrot was recently eliminated in 15th place by Antoine Pacaud. The dealer had already mucked Perrot's cards, though we do know he was sent packing by Pacaud's {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{9-Clubs} on a board reading {5-Spades}{J-Spades}{K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{3-Clubs}.

Huge Double Up For Kalenius

Petteri Kalenius raised from the button to 2,800 and former chip leader Nikolay Volper three-bet to 10,200. Kalenius took his time before re-potting and Volper moved all in. Kalenius called for a total of 51,500.

Showdown:
Petteri Kalenius: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades}
Nikolay Volper: {J-Spades}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades}

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, and Kalenius jumped way up the leader board.

Jacob Dahl Eliminated in 16th Place (€3,752)

The Day 1 chip leader has just been eliminated by the hands of Francisco Da Costa Santos. Santos raised from the button to 2,700 after which Jacob Dahl three-bet to 9,700 from the small blind. Santos quickly shoved a ton of chips into the pot and Dahl agreed on being all in for around 25,000 chips.

Showdown:
Jacob Dahl: {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Francisco Da Costa Santos: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

The board ran out {8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, and Dahl was knocked out.

Paez Doubles Into the Chip Lead

We stumbled upon a monster hand with 40,000 already in the middle with a flop reading {Q-Clubs}{K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}. Part of that 40,000 was from a bet Nikolay Volper had made (it was already pulled in), but Raul Paez has raised him all in, which was another 34,500 in front of him.

Volper thought for a long time and held up {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{4-Clubs} for all to see. After about four minutes in the tank, Volper made the call and discovered he was far behind the {K-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{a-Hearts} of Paez. Neither the {5-Spades} turn nor {5-Hearts} river changed a thing and Paez doubled into the chip lead.

Dan Smith Eliminated in 17th Place (€3,752)

Dan Smith - 17th Place
Dan Smith - 17th Place

From the button, Dan Shak raised to 3,000. Dan Smith potted the action from the small blind to 10,200, and action then folded back to Shak. He reraised to put Smith all in, and Smith called off for a total of about 27,000.

Shak: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}
Smith: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}

The flop came down {K-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Spades} and Smith took the lead with two pair, kings and fours. Shak held a flush draw that was very much live.

On the turn, Shak nailed his flush when the {5-Spades} hit. Now Smith needed to make a full house in order to stay alive and double up.

The {10-Clubs} landed on the river, and it wasn't the card Smith needed. Shak had him well covered, which spelled the end of Smith's tournament in 17th place. He earned €3,752 for his finish.

Shak improved his stack to 116,000 in chips and will be looking to make his second World Series of Poker final table. It would be his first on European soil, but come in a form of the game where he's made his other two final tables: Omaha.

In 2005, Shak took ninth in the $5,000 Omaha Hi/Lo event for $21,055. In 2010, he nearly snatched his first gold bracelet, but fell just short when he placed second in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Hi/Lo event for $202,142.

Arvin Golrang Eliminated in 18th Place (€3,752)

Aku Joentausta raised under the gun to 2,500 and the action was folded to Arvin Golrang. Golrang was on the button and he three-bet to 7,500. Both blinds folded and Joentausta put his opponent all in for just 2,000 extra chips.

The dealer seemed confused, but after about 20 seconds everything was sorted.

Showdown:
Aku Joentausta: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades}
Arvin Golrang: {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{8-Spades}

The board ran out {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{9-Hearts}{K-Spades}{4-Spades}, and Golrang was knocked out.

Negreanu Says Goodbye

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

From under the gun, Daniel Negreanu raised the pot to 3,500. On the button, Mike McDonald made the call.

The flop came down {A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, and Negreanu bet the last 2,500 of his stack. McDonald called to put him at risk of elimination. Negreanu showed the {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{4-Hearts}, and McDonald showed the {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades}.

The turn was the {J-Hearts} and river the {3-Spades}, eliminating Negreanu in 19th place. The remaining 18 players will now be redrawing to three tables.
