Petteri Kalenius opened for 1,800 on the button and received calls from Dan Smith and Jamie Pickering in the small and big blind respectively. The flop saw Smith take the initiative and lead out for 3,600, and Pickering responded by moving all in for 8,600. Kalenius got out of the way and Smith snap-called.
Showdown
Smith:
Pickering:
Smith had flopped the nuts which meant Pickering was looking to either pair the board to improve his set of sixes to a full house or hit his gut-shot straight draw. The turn did neither, but the river did as it paired the board and gave Pickering the double on the bubble.
Dan Smith has been fairly active, and after just taking down a pot by three-betting pre flop he just decided to raise it up to 2,000. Jamie Pickering called from the button and Dan Shak defended his big blind.
The flop came down and Shak checked to Smith who threw out 3,600. Pickering tanked for a while, but eventually folded.
Shak tanked for a bit before he announced a pot-sized re-raise. Smith moved all in and Shak called for a total of 24,600.
Showdown:
Dan Shak:
Dan Smith:
The turn was the and Shak was looking for help in order to stay alive.
"Heart!" Shak yelled, right before the dealer put out the .
"Yes!" Shak added as he secured himself of a double up. "I'm sorry about the "Yes", I just hate to be the bubble boy," he added.
"I don't mind," Smith said as was left behind with 22,000 chips.
Three players saw a flop of and soon thereafter two of them were all in and at risk against the third. The man with the most chips, Micah Smith, held the best hand and had both Dries Goyens and October Niner Greg Merson drawing for their tournament life.
Showdown
Merson:
Smith:
Goyens:
Smith held top set, Goyens an up-and-down straight-flush draw, and Merson two pair. The turn didn't change a thing, and neither did the river. Smith improved to a full house while sending two tough opponents to the rail.
"Maybe one day you'll get this live poker thing," Dan Smith told Merson on his way out after exchanging a friendly bumping of the nubs. Meanwhile, we're down to 22 players, which means it's time for hand-for-hand play.
Micah Smith just raised to 2,000 from the small blind, and Andy Frankenberger called from the big.
The flop came down and Smith fired out 2,800. Frankenberger immediately raised pot and Smith moved all in. Frankenberger snap-called and the cards were turned on their backs.
Showdown:
Andy Frankenberger:
Micah Smith:
On the turn the hit, and the river was the . Frankenberger doubled up while Smith was knocked far down.
It appeared Brandon Crawford had gotten his stack all in preflop and was in good shape against Petteri Kalenius.
Showdown
Crawford:
Kalenius:
We actually caught the action on the turn with the board reading , and then watched as the spiked on the river to give Kalenius aces and queens for the win. Crawford, who was clearly upset, gathered his things and made a hasty exit from the tournament.
Today is a rather easy day at the 2012 World Series of Poker Europe, which means it's a great night to have the WSOP Europe party.
Kicking off at 10:00 PM local time, and located across the street from the Majestic Barrière Hotel, the venue will be the Majestic Beach Club. It's the same place the party was hosted last year, but this year things are planned to be bigger and better.
Representatives at the WSOP have informed us that the end of the dock will be converted into a huge stage for a DJ. There will also be an increased number of champagne bottles on hand for everyone to get their drink on. Entry will be free to Main Event entrants, but everyone is welcome. One thing is for sure, you won't want to miss it if you're in the area, so come on down!
The preliminary events of the 2012 World Series of Poker Europe are nearing an end, but there’s still a couple of things to finish up before the €10,000 Main Event including Day 2 of Event #6: €1,650 Six-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha. Today’s action will pick up the final 26 players of a 206-player field, 21 of which will earn a payday on their way to the final table.
The man best position to make a deep run is Jacob Dahl, who finished Day 1 as the chip leader with 74,200. Standing in his way is some stiff competition including David Benyamine, Aku Joentausta, Andrew Lichtenberger, Ana Marquez, Dan Smith, John Eames, Micah Smith, John Monnette, Mike “Timex” McDonald, Daniel Negreanu, Dan Shak Andy Frankenberger and Greg Merson. Needless to say, this is a stacked field.
