Troyanovskiy Gets It in Good, But Cheong Gets Lucky

Vladimir Troyanovskiy
Vladimir Troyanovskiy

Vladimir Troyanovskiy opened for 17,000 from the hijack and received a call from Christopher Brammer in the cutoff. Joseph Cheong then three-bet to 64,000 from the small blind, Troyanovskiy four-bet to 128,000, Brammer folded, and Cheong five-bet all in. Troyanovskiy called off his remaining 120,000 and was in a dominating spot.

Showdown
Troyanovskiy: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Cheong: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

Troyanovskiy seemed happy with the spot, but not after the {Q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop gave Cheong a flush draw. Troyanovskiy stood from his chair and watched the dealer burn and turn the {A-Clubs}, a safe card. Troyanovskiy managed to avoid a diamond on the river as well, but unfortunately for him the {9-Hearts} spiked, giving Cheong trips and the win. Troyanovskiy was clearly disappointed and silently made his way to the payout desk in 27th place for €22,982.

Baranov Eliminates ElkY; Over One Million

Bertrand Grospellier - busted
Bertrand Grospellier - busted

Action folded around to Sergii Baranov who raised to 16,000. To his immediate left, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier three-bet to 42,000. It folded back to Baranov who wasted no time four-betting to 116,000. Grospellier moved all in and Baranov snapped him off with {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}. Grospellier shook his head and flipped up {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and would need some help.

Unfortunately for ElkY, help would not come, as the board fell {K-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. The elimination of Grospellier propelled the field into a total redraw with only 24 players left.

Fireworks at Table 8

Phil Hellmuth opened to 25,000 from early position and Andy Frankenberger three-bet to 60,000.

"God!" said Hellmuth, lamenting the fact that he has been three-bet several times since the re-draw.

"See Phil," said Scott Seiver. "You fell for the trap, and now I'm all in." Seiver's four-bet all in was for 195,000 total.

It folded back around to Hellmuth and he flung his cards away. Frankenberger eventually gave up as well and Seiver took the pot.
