Mercier Adds More

We're on the bubble, and Jason Mercier just took down a pot versus Philipp Gruissem.

On at {A-Clubs}{6-Spades}{10-Clubs} flop Gruissem check-called 9,500 and the turn brought the {4-Clubs}. The German pro now check-called 24,500 after which the river was the {5-Clubs}.

Gruissem grabbed chips and bet 36,000. Mercier called right away and got shown {J-Spades}{10-Hearts}. Mercier showed {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and took down the pot with a flush.

October Niner Fights On

Jesse Sylvia doubles through Prosper Masquelier.
Jesse Sylvia doubles through Prosper Masquelier.

A short-stacked Jesse Sylvia, who happens to be the chip leader in this year's October Nine and will be playing for millions of dollars in Vegas later this month, was all in under the gun for 24,000 and received a call from Prosper Masquelier in the big blind. Action was paused in order for action to conclude on the other tables, and then the cards were turned up:

Showdown
Masquelier: {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Sylvia: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

It was a flip, which meant the atmosphere was electric. The media and players alike surrounded Table 11 to await the flop... {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}. Sylvia survived the hard part, and he was safe through the {A-Hearts} turn. Masquelier needed either a jack or queen in order to burst the bubble, and while the river was paint, it was the useless {K-Hearts}.

Sylvia let out a smile, turned, and gave Tournament Director Jack Effel a big hug.

October Niner Jesse Sylvia Bubbles

Jesse Syvia is the bubble boy.
Jesse Syvia is the bubble boy.

October Niner Jesse Sylvia moved all in for his last 45,500 and was called by 2010 November Niner Joseph Cheong. The crowd gathered around filled with media members and players eager to see if they made the money. The hands were revealed to find that Sylvia was in need of some help.

Sylvia: {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Cheong: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

The flop fell {K-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Cheong retained his lead. It wouldn't be an exciting bubble hand without a sweat, however, and the {6-Diamonds} on the turn did just that. Sylvia needed to catch a diamond or an ace to stay alive in the tournament. Unfortunately for Sylvia the {K-Clubs} came down on fifth street and he was forced to settle for the title of bubble boy.

On his way out, Sylvia was wished good luck in the WSOP Main Event Final Table by many players at his table. On the other hand, with this elimination, Cheong is now flirting with 800,000 in chips.

Boeree Takes From Grospellier

While attention was focused on the bubble, a hand developed over at Table 15 that saw Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier send quite a few chips over to Liv Boeree. As we understand it, Grospellier held {9-}{9-} and fired every street as the board ran out {6-}{4-}{3-}{K-}{K-}. Boeree called each bet and was pleased as punch to discover her {J-}{J-} was good.

Justin Bonomo

It didn't take long for the first elimination to occur after the bubble burst. It happened when Justin Bonomo shoved for 48,500 with {K-}{J-} offsuit and was called by the {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} of Eugene Katchalov. The board ran out clean and Bonomo exited in 48th place.

He immediately made his way over to register for the €50,000 Majestic High Roller event.

Negreanu Takes Out Weinman

Daniel Negreanu moved all in the very first hand after the bubble burst. The action was folded to Daniel Weinman who called all in for just 31,000.

Showdown:
Daniel Negreanu: {10-Spades}{9-Spades}
Daniel Weinman: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs}, and due to a rivered straight the pot was shipped to Negreanu. Weinman finished in 47th place and they will start dropping fast now.

Frenchman Sends Negreanu Home in 43rd Place

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Action folded around French pro Paul Tedeschi on the button and he raised to 11,500. Daniel Negreanu then moved all in from the small blind for 81,000, the big folded, and Tedeschi made the call.

Showdown
Negreanu: {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Tedeschi: {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}

"The hand played itself," Negreanu explained as spectators surrounded the table. "Oh, it should have been a four," he went on to say when the flop fell {5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. Wouldn't you know it, the {4-Hearts} appeared on the turn to deliver him an open-ended straight draw and a bunch of new outs. Unfortunately for Negreanu, the {10-Clubs} river was not what he needed. With that, Negreanu took his leave in 43rd place.
