Velasco is the First Elimination of the Main Event

Level 1 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante
Juan Velasco
Juan Velasco

After a lot of raising back and forth between Vikrant Mangal in the small blind and Juan Velasco out of the big blind, the two players got their stacks into the middle and the cards were revealed.

Vikrant Mangal: AA All in
Juan Velasco: AK

Mangal had slightly fewer chips than Velasco, so he was the one at risk, although he found himself in a perfect spot with aces versus the ace-king of Velasco.

Velasco was drawing by the turn on the 37J96 runout, and after the stacks were counted, Velasco was left with around 3,000.

The next hand, Velasco jammed from the small blind and Alexandru Moraru called out of the big blind.

Juan Velasco: K2 All in
Alexandru Moraru: A5

Moraru was slightly ahead, but Velasco had two live cards working for him. A flop of A3J proved unfavorable for Velasco as Moraru hit top pair, and Velasco needed running cards to survive. He picked up a straight draw on the Q turn, but bricked it when the 9 completed the board.

The pot went over to Moraru, and after just a few hands, Velasco was the first elimination of the 2025 WSOPE Main Event.

Klabisch Gets Oz Steamed but Modoran the Beneficiary

Level 2 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Adrian Modoran
Adrian Modoran

A pot of 30,000 had developed by the turn on a board of K4JJ, in a hand between Barak Oz and Karsten Knoebel in middle position, and Mariusz Klabisch on the button.

The dealer was in the process of sweeping chips from Oz and Knoebel into the middle, and Klabisch had just folded.

The K hit on the river, and Klabisch jumped out of his chair exclaiming "Oh No!", in a huge poker etiquette faux pas.

The active players tried to proceed as normal, and Oz checked to Knoebel, who slid out a bet of 10,000. Oz showed his understandable frustration, saying to Klabsich "So you folded a king eh, you can't do this man, this is bad".

Klabisch was apologetic, saying "Sorry, I know, sorry, I'm emotional, look at my stack", gesturing to his sub 20,000 stack. "That doesn't help me", responded Oz.

Oz chucked in calling chips reluctantly, and his mood only darkened when Knoebel showed QJ for the low full house, beating Oz's A9 for the flopped nut flush, his cards slammed down face-up onto the table in anger.

The floor had appeared, and Oz asked for a ruling. The floor went to check with the tournament director, and in the meantime, Oz opened to 1,000 from early position.

Action folded to Adrian Modoran on the button, who produced a three-bet to 3,500. Oz pumped it up again to 16,000, and called off for his 65,000 total stack versus a five-bet jam from Modoran.

Barak Oz: AQ All in
Adrian Modoran: AA

In a brutal turn of events, Oz had run into aces, and there was no escape despite flopping top pair on the Q7659 runout.

Oz was fuming, and the floor came back and gave Klabisch a stern warning as to his conduct, while Oz stormed off from the tournament area.

Viktor Blom opened 109 from early position to 1,300 and Campbell Ashton three-bet the button to 4,000. When it got back to Blom, he called.

The flop came 67J, and after Blom checked, Ashton checked back to the 9 turn. Blom then threw out 5,800, and Ashton called.

When the 9 on the river gave Blom trips, he bet 23,600. Ashton took some time before he bluff-shoved for 74,700. Blom went into the tank while he tried to piece together the puzzle. Eventually, Blom did call, and Ashton was eliminated.

Elias Vaaraniemi
Elias Vaaraniemi

Markus Yamaci and Elias Vaaraniemi just got their chips into the middle with Yamaci being the player at risk for roughly 45,000.

Markus Yamaci: KK All in
Elias Vaaraniemi: AQ

Vaaraniemi needed to come from behind to beat Yamaci's cowboys. The QJK flop was great for Yamaci as he improved to top set. However, Vaaraniemi turned a Broadway straight on the 10 turn, and managed to fade a board-pairing river as the 3 completed the board.

Yamaci headed to the rail, and Vaaraniemi was up to around 145,000.
