Zhu & Sheils Lead Final 25 of 2026 WSOP Europe Main Event

Level 28 : Blinds 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante
Hengtao Zhu

Eighty-five returning players were reduced to 25 after Day 4 of the 2026 WSOP Europe Main Event inside King's Casino at Hilton Prague, as the series' marquee tournament moved one step closer to crowning its champion.

Leading the field heading into the penultimate day are Hengtao Zhu and Brandon Sheils, who bagged 16,395,000 and 15,935,000 respectively. They are the only players returning with stacks of 100 big blinds or following the six levels of action that unfolded on Wednesday.

WSOP bracelet winner and high roller Chris Hunichen, who also made it through with a top ten stack, called Zhu "too f****** good" at one stage during the day, but the Finnish player remains a largely unknown quantity in the live poker arena.

Zhu has modest live earnings of just $39,361 from 12 recorded cashes, according to The Hendon Mob. His biggest score stands at $24,915 from a €560 buy-in event, which is also the largest buy-in he has cashed on record. Now, he finds himself in the biggest spot of his tournament career, sitting in pole position for a major title and the €2,000,000 first-place prize.

Zhu's rise to the top began when he bested Johan Espholm's set of tens on a four-to-a-flush board. He extracted maximum value with the nuts, before later benefitting from a kings-versus-queens cooler against poker Triple Crown winner Roberto Romanello.

Sheils, however, offers a sharp contrast. The Brit has cashed for more than $250,000 already in 2026, with results dating back to 2013 and more than $3 million in total live earnings. He also arrived in Prague in strong form. In January, he booked a High Roller and Main Event double in London, before winning his first two SCOOP titles in March.

Other notables advancing to the next stage include bracelet winners Marius Kudzmanas (6,595,000) and Yuhan Wang (4,510,000), alongside 2023 WSOP Main Event runner-up Steven Jones (5,980,000).

Also still in contention are accomplished regulars Tom Hall (5,100,000), Sonny Franco (2,900,000), and Day 2 chip leader Thomas Eychenne (2,340,000).

Deep Runs End for Okamoto and Obrestad on Day 4

Shiina Okamoto and Annette Obrestad
Shiina Okamoto and Annette Obrestad

Two of the headline storylines going into Day 4 centered around Shiina Okamoto and Annette Obrestad, but both saw their deep runs come to painful ends.

Okamoto was eliminated late on Day 4 after being involved in a brutal cooler that saw her pocket aces crushed by quads.

The reigning back-to-back WSOP Ladies Championship winner couldn’t find a fold when Vasileios Panagiotidis flopped and turned a monster with quad jacks. Meanwhile, Obrestad’s fairytale return to the felt, 19 years on from her 2007 WSOPE Main Event success, ended when her deuces fell short against Sondre Stormyr.

Both players banked €40,000 for their deep runs, with GTO Wizard ambassador Okamoto eliminated in 37th place, while the youngest-ever WSOP bracelet winner Obrestad finished in 34th.

Remaining Payouts

Each remaining contender has secured at least €50,000, but the biggest paydays are now within reach.

Six-figure prizes begin at 11th place, while reaching the final table guarantees at least €140,000. The rewards climb sharply from there, with the final five locking up €425,000 and the top three all earning at least €800,000.

All eyes, however, remain on the €2,000,000 top prize that awaits the next WSOP Europe Main Event champion.

Jan Tichacek

Hengtao Zhu opened the action on the button with 86, raising to 240,000. Chris Hunichen called from the small blind holding 22. In the big blind, Jan Tichacek saw his chance with 33 and shoved all in for 1,600,000.

Zhu folded right away, but Hunichen took a moment and decided to call.

The flop came 925, giving Hunichen a set, but the A on the turn brought a glimmer of hope for Tichacek. That hope turned into reality on the river when the 4 landed, completing a straight and keeping him alive in the tournament.

Brandon Sheils
Brandon Sheils

Brandon Sheils opened from under the gun and found a caller in Thomas Eychenne in the big blind.

Eychenne checked the 95Q flop, and Sheils continued for 250,000, which Eychenne called.

Both players checked the K turn.

On the 8 river, Eychenne fired 750,000, and Sheils quickly called. Eychenne showed 55 for a set, but Sheils tabled KK for top set to scoop the pot, while Eychenne could only exhale, knowing it might have gone very differently.

Alexandre Bermon

Danilo Velasevic 98 raised to 200,000 from early position. Alexandre Bermon flat-called KK from the hijack. Marius Kudzmanas JJ three-bet to 530,000 from the cutoff with Viacheslav Sultanov AQ then four-betting to 860,000 from the button.

Velasevic folded before Bermon jammed for 2,200,000, which allowed Kudzmanas to fold his jacks. Sultanov called for the cards to go on thier backs.

Sultanov had outs to Broadway on the K103 flop, but Bemron's set remained best, and was still ahead after the 8 turn. However, the J river gave Sultanov his straight to down Bermon's cowboys.

Annette Obrestad

Sondre Stormyr opened to 200,000 from early position and was called by Rokas Asipauskas from the button. Annette Obrestad shoved for 540,000 from the small blind. Stormyr made it 1,200,000, folding out Asipauskas and the cards were tabled.

Annette Obrestad: 22All in
Sondre Stormyr: KJ

Obrestad was immediately drawing to two outs, as Stormyr paired up on the J84 flop. The 7 turn left her with one card to come. The final card would not be her saving grace, as the 10 completed the board.

Obrestad's return to the WSOP, would end in a fantastic 34th place-finish in the record-setting 2026 WSOP Europe Main Event.

Okamoto Crushed by Quads

Shiina Okamoto
Shiina Okamoto

Vasileios Panagiotidis opened from early position to 200,000, and Shiina Okamoto responded with a three-bet to 650,000, which Panagiotidis called.

The flop came 8JJ, and Okamoto check-called Panagiotidis’ 400,000 bet.

The turn brought the J, and Okamoto took the lead with a 900,000 bet, only to see Panagiotidis call once again.

On the 7 river, Okamoto used a time bank card before firing a huge 2,500,000 bet. Panagiotidis quickly shoved all in, and Okamoto made the call without hesitation. She showed AA for a full house, jacks over aces, but Panagiotidis had J10 for quad jacks, scooping the massive pot and ending Okamoto’s deep run.

Hunichen Says Zhu's "Too F****** Good"

Chris Hunichen
Chris Hunichen

Hengtao Zhu opened to 160,000 from the cutoff and was called by Chris Hunichen on the button. Jan Tichacek and Marc Delimal also came along from the blinds.

Zhu continued for 300,000 on the J94 flop, with only Hunichen making the call.

Action slowed on the 10 turn as Zhu checked. Hunichen fired 500,000 and Zhu called.

The 8 river completed a four-liner on the board, and Zhu led out for 1,500,000. Hunichen looked uncomfortable in the spot and folded after using a time bank.

"You're too fucking good," Hunichen laughed, shaking his head in exasperation, while Zhu wore a wry smile as he extended his chip lead.
