Torbergsen Doubles then Busts (15th for £22,847)

Marius Torbergsen was down to 43,000 and got lucky to double up but he busted the very next hand.

In the first hand he raised to 5,000 and then moved all-in when Ram Vaswani three-bet to 10,000. Torbergsen was in trouble with with his {a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} to Vaswani's {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} but the board ran {4-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Trips fours good for a double to 86,000.

The next hand all the chips went in again. This time Vaswani had pocket queens to Torbergsen's ace-nine and his hand held up to send him through.

Svanevik-tion (Wins £22,847)

Sondre Svanevik: 16th
Sondre Svanevik: 16th

The first player sent packing from the last 16 is Sondre Svanevik, who fell to Kevin Eyster's full house (he held {A-Spades} {10-Diamonds} on a {10-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {3-Spades} {10-Hearts} {3-Hearts} board). He was of course part of the duo still tossing the chip lead back and forth two levels after the rest of Round Three had finished, which may have taken its toll - Eyster has won all his matches so far in pretty quick time and now has to hang around until 11pm for his next challenger.

Torbergsen Torn Up

Ram Vaswani looks very comfortable right now, and with good reason - of the 480,000 in play between him and Marius Torbergsen, Vaswani is now in possession of 425,000.

Following that disaster a few hands back, Vaswani has not let up the aggression, and the hapless Torbergsen is down to 55,000. Most recently we found Torbergsen betting out on a {7-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{q-Spades} flop but giving it up to a Vaswani raise. We could see another match conclude before too long at this rate...

Vaswani's Nuts Paid

Ram Vaswani: easy game
Ram Vaswani: easy game

Ram Vaswani had an 80k bet called on the river by Marius Torbergsen (possibly the largest bet in the tournament to be called and not all-in so far) and showed down only the nut flush with {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs}. This tips Vaswani's stack way back up while Torbergsen has a third of the chips he started with (82k) and a long way to climb back.

Huck ConSeeds Defeat After Lederer 5-bet Shove

Preflop war is waged between professional rivals Huck Seed and Howard Lederer, who've presumably racked up many hands in each other's company and are giving the rail something to talk about in this round. Just now we could have seen an all-in confrontation:

Button Seed raise.
Lederer--->23k
Seed--->55k
Lederer--->all in (after a good long think)
Seed folds with a sigh.

Hansen in a Hole

Gus Hansen - did not expect an ace
Gus Hansen - did not expect an ace

There was over 80,000 in the pot by the turn of the {9-Hearts}{a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{6-Hearts} board, and although it had taken a very long time we think the turn action went Gus Hansen check, Phil Ivey check.

They saw a {2-Hearts} river and Hansen checked again. Ivey now bet 60,000, and it was time for some serious tankage.

Hansen tanked, and then he tanked some more. He shrugged, then squinted, and then it was time for another few minutes in the tank. Ivey sat patient as a poker monk.

Eventually, with a jerk of his hand that could as easily have been mere reflex as actual intention, Hansen made the call. And then mucked to Ivey's {a-Hearts}{4-Spades}.

Ivey - 380,000
Hansen - 100,000

Negreanu Makes a Stand; Gets Lucky

Andrew Robl had been getting the better of Daniel Negreanu so far but the tables have just turned after Negreanu got lucky on the river to double-up. Around 60,000 had made it into the middle by the turn with the board reading {4-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{k-Hearts}. Robl led for 37,000 to face a 132,500 push for Negreanu. Call.

Negreanu tabled {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a pair and flush draw, behind to Robl's {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. The river came {8-Hearts} to temporarily crush Robl's hopes of advancing. He's down to 145,000 now.

Four-bet More Bet

Deepening stacks and lengthening clocks mean that there's quite a lot of room to wriggle early on, and preflop aggression is the watchword around the tables. Button Kevin Eyster just made it 5k, big blind Sondre Svanevik upped it to 17k, and Eyster threw out 49k after a bit of a think. At this point Svanevik backed down, like the cat on the fence who loses the unspoken tail-swishing battle, and calmly, quickly passed and moved on to the next hand.

One table along and almost the same scenario was playing out as button Neil Channing made it 4,500 preflop, McLean Carr raised to 14,500, and Channing fourbet him off with his raise to 34,000. These two did reach a showdown shortly thereafter, though - Channing again the preflop aggressor and still in the driving seat on the river of a {8-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {4-Hearts} board. He bet 30,500 and Karr made the call, mucking with a "nice hand" when he saw Channing's {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}.

Negreanu Slips

Daniel Negreanu - sad face :(
Daniel Negreanu - sad face :(

Andrew Robl opened for 6,000 on the button and Daniel Negreanu furrowed his brow before making the call.

They both checked the {k-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop and saw a {9-Clubs} turn on which Negreanu, brow still creased, saw fit to bet out 8,000. Robl called.

They saw another nine on the river - the {9-Spades} - and this time Negreanu checked. Robl bet 23,000, and after an almost endless period in the tank, Negreanu folded.

This was just the latest small-ball installment in Negreanu's slow slide though - he's at 190,000 now, to Robl's 290,000.
