Big Blind Special Wins for Matakis

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Ian Matakis
Ian Matakis

With 3,500 in the pot and a board reading {9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, Ian Matakis bet 1,800 from the small blind and Toby Lewis called from early position.

The {8-Diamonds} completed the board on the river and action went check-check.

Matakis tabled the {7-Spades}{3-Spades} for a pair of sevens and it was good as Lewis sent his hand to the muck.

Two Black Aces for ODB

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
David Baker
David Baker

The under-the-gun players opened for 2,500 and the player next to act called. When action reached David "ODB" Baker on the button, he popped it to 9,500. Both blinds folded, the UTG player called, and the limper got out of the way to make it heads-up action to the {3-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{j-Diamonds} flop.

The UTG player check-called a bet of 7,500 and then both players checked the {a-Hearts} on the turn. When the {8-Spades} completed the board on the river, the UTG player fired out 32,500 and Baker paused for a few beats before raising all of his stack except a single T100 chip, essentially going all in for 55,000.

That did the trick as the UTG player folded and asked, "Aces?"

Baker obliged and showed the table his {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}.

"I wish I had ten-nine," the UTG player quipped.

HPT POY Pupillo Doubles Through Jaka

Level 10 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Nick Pupillo
Nick Pupillo

There was already 100K in the pot and a board reading {2-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades} when we arrived at the table.

Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) Season XV Player of the Year Nick Pupillo had checked from the lojack and Faraz Jaka moved all in for around 70,000 from the button. Pupillo, who had 58,000 back, hit the tank before eventually calling off.

Nick Pupillo: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Faraz Jaka: {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

Jaka had bluffed his missed flush draw and Pupillo was rewarded with a big double here in the last level of the night.
