Moran Building Back

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

After being down to fewer than ten big blinds earlier this level, Daniel Moran has managed to rebuild the stack he had earlier in the day.

A player in the cutoff open shoved and Daniel Moran re-jammed his larger stack out of the small blind. The big blind folded and the cutoff player was at risk.

Cutoff Player: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Daniel Moran: {a-Spades}{9-Spades}

Moran was once again ahead, this time holding a dominant lead over his opponent. The {9-Clubs}{5-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop paired both players' kickers, keeping Moran in front. Nothing changed on the {4-Clubs} turn or {a-Clubs} river, sending the cutoff player to the rail late in the day.

Moran Survives

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Daniel Moran
Daniel Moran

A player in late position opened to 9,000 and the short-stacked Daniel Moran shoved his last 37,000 into the middle from the button. Once action had folded back around to him, the late position player made the call to put Moran at risk.

Daniel Moran: {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Late Position Player: {k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

Though Moran was ahead, his opponent did have two live cards. The {3-Hearts}{j-Spades}{a-Hearts} flop all but sealed the deal for Moran with the {2-Spades} turn cementing his survival prior to the meaningless {3-Spades} river.

Kolev Finds River Call for Huge Pot

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Boris Kolev
Boris Kolev

Just before the blinds went up, on a completed board of {q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades} in an already bloated pot, a player on the button was all-in for approximately 144,000 chips, and Boris Kolev had a decision in middle position.

Kolev took some time to think about his decision and exhaled while examining his opponent. Eventually, he called.

His opponent started to get up and flipped over {k-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, while Kolev tabled {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} to take the massive pot and soar to the top of the leaderboard.

Schutten Outduels Foxen

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante
Brek Schutten
Brek Schutten

Kristen Foxen opened from under the gun and was called by one player before action folded to Brek Schutten in the small blind, who three-bet. Foxen flatted while the other player got out of the way.

The flop came {2-Hearts}{3-Spades}{10-Hearts} and Schutten led out for 19,000. Foxen, after some consideration, made the call.

Schutten slowed down on the board pairing {10-Clubs} turn, checking to Foxen who fired off 27,000. Though he had checked, Schutten was not yet ready to release his holding and tossed in calling chips.

The {10-Diamonds} river put three tens on the board and saw both players check it down. Schutten turned over {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades} and Foxen mucked to send Schutten's stack shooting up to just a little under 300,000.

Severino Puts Beat On Opponent to Score Knockout

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante
Jose Severino
Jose Severino

On a board reading {9-Clubs}{3-Spades}{5-Spades} Jose Severino was involved in a three-way pot with Daniel Moran in the small blind and another player in middle position. Severino moved all in and was called by the middle position player, who had the effective stack, while Moran folded.

Middle Position Player: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Jose Severino: {a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}

The at-risk player was well ahead and remained so after the {8-Hearts} turn. However, the improbable {9-Spades} found its way onto the felt on the river, dealing a death blow to the middle position player's stack late on Day 1a.

Platt's Struggle Ends With Zero Chips

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante
Jeff Platt
Jeff Platt

Esteemed broadcaster Jeff Platt has had an up-and-down day in his quest to accumulate chips, and his struggle to find a bag today has recently ended.

As recounted by Platt, the button player jammed with a dead small blind, and Platt called all-in for his stack of about 33,000 in the big blind.

Jeff Platt: {k-}{10-}
Button: {q-}{7-}

The {4-}{2-}{2-} flop kept Platt in front, but the {7-} turn left him needing help, and the {2-} completed the board to confirm his elimination.

"Many people were saying that's the greatest call they've ever seen," Platt mentioned as he made his exit from the tournament area.

Although his struggle to add to his stack ends before the day's conclusion, the broadcaster and self-proclaimed "very average poker player" will surely have many more opportunities and struggles in the future.

Loosli Gets It In Good

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante

Sylvain Loosli was all in and at risk from the small blind against an under-the-gun player.

Sylvain Loosli: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Under the Gun Player: {a-Spades}{j-}

Loosli had his opponent dominated and was in good shape to secure the double. He did just that after the board ran out {2-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades}. Though still below tournament average, Loosli has at least bought himself some breathing room.
