Daniels In the Mix

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante

Jake Daniels opened to 1,200 from the cutoff and was called by both blinds.

Action checked to Daniels after the {8-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop and he continued for 1,200. The small blind called while the big blind folded to send the two players heads-up to the turn.

Both the small blind and Daniels checked through the {6-Clubs} turn to the {j-Diamonds} river. The small blind then checked for a third time and Daniels threw out a bet of 3,100, enough to force his opponent out of the hand and scoop the pot.

Elias Outduels Cimbolas

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante
Darren Elias
Darren Elias

Matas Cimbolas opened to 1,200 from middle position and received a single call from Darren Elias out of the big blind.

Both players checked through the {9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{7-Spades} flop to see the {9-Spades} turn. At this point Elias led into Cimbolas for 3,200. Cimbolas, as yet unconvinced, called.

Elias was in no mood to slow down on the {4-Diamonds} river, firing off a bet of 10,000. That was enough to get Cimbolas off his hand and keep Elias chipping up.

Shahade Secures Double

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante
Jennifer Shahade
Jennifer Shahade

Jen Shahade opened in early position, a middle position player called, the button called, and Thomas Boivin three-bet to 5,400 in the big blind. Shahade thought about it and raised to 15,000, the middle position player moved all in, the button folded, Boivin folded, and Shahade called for her 33,500 chips.

Jen Shahade: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Middle Position: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop improved Shahade to a set, and the {9-Diamonds} turn locked up the pot, as the meaningless {10-Diamonds} completed the board and confirmed her double.

Hyun Takes One From Shahade

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

Sung-Joo Hyun opened to 800 from early position and was called by a player in middle position. Jen Shahade, who had just taken her seat in the tournament, then three-bet to 3,500 from the cutoff. Hyun made the call while the middle position player folded to send the two players to the flop.

Hyun checked to the three-bettor on the {2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{a-Spades} flop and Shahade continued for 3,000, a bet that Hyun called.

Action checked through the {3-Diamonds} turn to the {10-Hearts} river where Hyun took over the betting lead by tossing 14,600 into the middle. Shahade seemed somewhat perplexed by the bet and studied the board carefully before eventually throwing her hand away.

British Poker Player John Howard Ships $1,100 NLH Wynn Summer Classic Tournament

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante
John Howard
John Howard

The top two finishers in the Wynn Summer Classic's June 4 $1,100 buy-in no-limit hold'em tournament are from the United Kingdom. John Howard took first place for $58,942, while his fellow countryman, Raul Martinez Gallero, was the runner-up and received $36,385.

The tournament had an impressive field of 238 entrants. With $233,240 in the pot, there wasn't much of a sweat for the Wynn's poker room to hit the $200,000 guarantee. Thus far, the Wynn Summer Classic has been absolutely crushing it in terms of attendance, and this event was no outlier.

Howard beat a tough field that included some talented pros such as Justin Liberto (7th place for $7,557). He didn't just score big at the Wynn. The champ essentially earned his first ever recorded live tournament cash. According to Hendon Mob, his only other previous cash was for $28 back in 2009.

Goepel Gets There Against Hutter

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

With roughly 5,000 in the pot on a {6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop, Barry Hutter was on the button and had two orange T-1,000 chips over the betting line. Daniel Goepel was in early position and raised to 5,200, a cutoff player folded, and Hutter called.

The {3-Spades} fell on the turn and Goepel jammed for 13,900. Hutter called.

Daniel Goepel: {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}
Barry Hutter: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Goepel was looking for help, and the {7-Spades} hit the felt on the river to improve him to a straight and secure the double.

Peffly Plays Fast

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante
Alex Peffly
Alex Peffly

Alex Peffly from under the gun, donned in his customary green vizor, was involved in a three-way pot with a player in early position and the big blind. Prior to the flop, Peffly had put out a bet of 7,000 and been called by both opponents.

On a flop of {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{9-Spades} the big blind player checked and, with around 22,000 in the middle, Peffly overbet 45,000, enough to force either of the other players all in. The early position player considered for quite some time before releasing their hand while the big blind did not take long to do the same, sending the sizable pot the British player's way.
