The 2023 Wynn Millions kicked off on February 20 and is slated to run through March 19. While the $3,500 buy-in, $3 million GTD Wynn Millions Main Event is capturing the big headlines, there have been a series of side events playing over the past couple of weeks.

From February 27-28, the $1,100 Seniors NLH $100K GTD saw 240 entrants generate a $232,800 prize pool, which was reserved for the top 27 finishers. Among those to cash but fall short of the final table were Michael Ruter (10th - $4,598), Danny Bigelow (14th - $3,562), Cy Williams (19th - $2,863), and Arnie Friedman (25th - $2,363).

At the final table, a three-way deal was struck that ultimately saw Peter Costa win the tournament for $44,179. If that name sounds familiar, it’s probably because you recognize Costa as the winner of the 2003 Aussie Millions Main Event for $221,862.

“Just before the mass shutdowns due to COVID in 2020, I decided that I had unfinished business with poker,” Costa shared on social media. “It was just a matter of when rather than if, regardless of the fact that I was not getting any younger … This year, I was determined that the unfinished business needed to be finished.”

He continued: “Looking back at this event, it really was fun seeing the numbers dwindle down with me and my short stack being mere bystanders for the most part … I was just enjoying the moment for it was - a fun time with really nice people.”

Some of his accomplishments that year included victories in the $300 Limit Hold’em event at the California State Poker Championship for $115,662; Bellagio’s $2,500 Limit Hold’em for $112,000; $5,000 Championship Event at the 2002 Hall of Fame Poker Classic for $101,520; a pair of victories at the 2002 Four Queens Poker Classic for nearly $40,000; and winning the Late Night Poker Series 6 Grand Final for $78,275.

Rossitto Ships Chip Lead Pot

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Michael Rossitto
Michael Rossitto

Michael Rossitto opened to 26,000 from middle position and Tyler Lunn three-bet to 60,000 next to act. The rest of the table got out of the way and Rossitto came along.

The dealer fanned out the flop of {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and Rossitto checked over to Lunn who continued for 50,000. Rossitto elected on a check-raise to 140,000 and Lunn clicked it back to 350,000. The tournament director was called over because when Lunn raised he slid forward two stacks then came back for more in a string bet motion.

The ruling was that Lunn would be forced to raise to 220,000 and without much thought, Rossitto jammed all in for over 800,000. Lunn counted his chips, but in the end made the call for his tournament life and the cards were tabled.

Tyler Lunn: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Michael Rossitto: {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Rossitto had a combo draw and Lunn was slightly ahead with his top pair. The turn brought the {5-Diamonds} to give Rossitto a flush but would need to dodge another diamond to take the massive pot. The river fell the {6-Spades} and Rossitto secured the check mark on the hand and sent Lunn to the payout desk.

Bronstein Hits the River to Eliminate Sekhar

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Raja Sekhar was down to around 185,000 and moved all in from the hijack. Noah Bronstein re-shoved all in for slightly more in the cutoff and the rest of the table folded.

Raja Sekhar: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Noah Bronstein: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Things were looking good for Sekhar on the {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} board but the {q-Diamonds} on the river gave Bronstein a pair to send Sekhar home.

Dyer Sends Nasreddine to the Rail

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Rania Nasreddine
Rania Nasreddine

It only took a couple of preflop raises for Michael Dyer and Rania Nasreddine to get all of their chips in the middle. Nasreddine was the player at risk for a little over 300,000 and needed some help.

Rania Nasreddine: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Michael Dyer: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}

The board ran out clean for Dyer and Nasreddine was unable to hit her two-outer as she headed to the payout desk.

Blanchard's Queens Hold Up

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Duane Blanchard opened to 25,000 in middle position and Pierce McKellar three-bet to 90,000 out of the small blind. Blanchard just called and the flop of {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{8-Spades} hit the felt.

McKellar led out with a bet of 50,000 and Blanchard called to see the {8-Hearts} on the turn. Both players checked through to the {4-Diamonds} on the river and then checked once more. Blanchard turned over {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} and McKellar's cards went into the muck.

Kingstone Puts The Pressure On

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Max Kingstone opened the action from under the gun to 25,000 and it folded around to the player in the big blind who made the call.

The flop came {k-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and the big blind check-called a bet of 40,000 from Kingstone. On the {6-Clubs} turn the big blind checked again and Kingstone cut out a bet of 85,000. The big blind went deep in the tank, contemplating for close to a minute, but in the end made the fold and the pot was sent to Kingstone.

DeWitt Flops Broadway to Down Patterson

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Jason DeWitt raised it up in early position and Tyler Patterson shoved all in for around 100,000 on his left. The action folded back to DeWitt who quickly called to put Patterson at risk.

Tyler Patterson: {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Jason DeWitt: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

It was a coin flip but the flop of {k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{10-Clubs} gave DeWitt a straight to leave Patterson drawing slim. The {2-Clubs} on the turn was no help to Patterson who rose from his chair as the {4-Diamonds} completed the board.
