Wynn Summer Classic Daily Recap: Michael Sklenicka Is Crowned Wynn Summer Champion, Wins $2,339,200!

Michael Sklenicka.
Michael Sklenicka.

July 2 at the Wynn Summer Classic was a huge day with five events on the go, one of which was the final table of the festival's main event — the $10,400 Wynn Summer Championship.

The Championship saw the final nine return and a final winner leave triumphant.

As well as crowning a new Summer Champion, the Wynn Summer Classic had a few other events checking, betting, and raising away in the background. These events were Day 1A of the $3,000 PLO Mystery Bounty, Day 1 of the two-day $25,800 NLH 8-Max, and two NLH freezeouts (a $1,600 NLH tourney, and an $1,100 Turbo).

Michael Sklenicka Wins $2,339,200 And Becomes The 2025 Wynn Summer Championship Winner

Michael Sklenicka's journey to victory in the $10,400 Wynn Summer Championship started a week ago with the first of four Day 1 flights. Following that came three more days of action, culminating in yesterday's Day 4.

Along the way, the field accrued 1,537 entries — for a prize pool of $15,062,600 — before cutting that field back down to one.

Sklenicka won the event, his masterful poker during his four days of play earned him $2,339,200 for first place.

Skelenick beat the final table chip leader, Jun Obara, heads up to take the event down. Obara won $1,594,677 for second place.

Some other notable players who cashed in the event included Alex Foxen (189th - $21,540), $25k NLH winner Aleksejs Ponakovs (183rd - $22,293), Justin Saliba (181st - $22,293), Punnat Punsri (160th - $23,196), and Brek Schutten (129th - $25,155), as well as Chris Brewer (69th - $36,150), Ian Matakis (70th - $36,150), Rainer Kempe (71st - $36,150), Kristen Foxen (66th - $36,150), and Kahle Burns (36th - $51,213).

Luis Faria Wins $1,600 No Limit Hold'em ($500k GTD)

Luis Faria
Luis Faria.

The $1,600 No Limit Hold'em ($500k GTD) tournament went to Luis Faria who took the event down in the early hours of the morning.

Faria defeated a UK player, Caleb Powell, heads up, putting $183,268 in Faria's pocket and a WSC trophy on his mantelpiece.

Although the $1,600 No Limit Hold'em ($500k GTD) is a step up in buy in from the usual $1,100 event, the turnout for the $1,600 event was very strong. A total of 695 players entered the event. This is more entries than most of the frequent $1,100 No Limit Hold'em offerings.

Such a high turnout made for a total prize pool of $1,007,750 of which, Powell earned $121,453 for his second-place finish.

$3,000 PLO Mystery Bounty Kicks Off!

Jonathan Bowers
Jonathan Bowers.

Mixing things up yesterday was an event that changed the format to mystery bounty and the game to pot limit Omaha.

The four-card fiend who carried off the chip lead after Day 1A of the $3,000 PLO Mystery Bounty Day 1A was Jonathan Bowers. Bowers amassed a stack of 992,000 in chips by the time the tournament director called end of play.

Bowers is followed in the rankings by Leonardo Daviglus (862,000) and Joshua Ladines (794,000).

This event has a guarantee of $1,000,000. This guarantee was smashed on Day 1A by the 558 player turnout which put the prize pool at $1,517,760 with still another Day 1 flight to go.

Day 1B starts at 1 p.m. today. After that, the 69 survivors from Day 1A will join up with the survivors of Day 1B on July 4 for Day 2 of the event.

The mystery bounties only kick in once play begins on Day 2.

David Chen Leads Second $25k 8-Max High Roller Event After Day 1

David Chen
David Chen.

The next event on the schedule yesterday was a close duplicate of the $25,800 NLH 8-Max (2 Day) event from two days prior.

This time around, the event attracted 35 entries. This was fewer than the 41 entries from the previous version, but a solid turnout for such a pricey tourney.

As a result of this turnout, $875,000 will be up for grabs when the five remaining survivors return later today.

When they return, the final five will be led by David Chen with 2,345,000 in chips.

However, he is up against close competition from Masashi Oya with 2,015,000 and Brandon Wittmeyer with 1,705,000 in second and third place, respectively.

The remaining players at the final table are high-rolling crusher Brek Schutten (450,000) and John Krpan (290,000).

$1,100 NLH Turbo Event Goes To Samuel Bernstein

Wynn Chips
Wynn Chips.

It wouldn't be a day at the WSC without at least one $1,100 no limit hold'em event and yesterday, that event was the $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Turbo ($100k GTD).

Some 304 players bought in, a decent turnout that put $296,400 in the prize pool and $47,587 up top.

Samuel Bernstein collected that top prize after a heads up confrontation with Yousef Nassr that ended with all the chips on Bernstein's side of the table.

Nassr collected $38,632 for second place.

What's Happening On July 3?

With the high and beautiful wave of the Wynn Summer Championship broken, it is time for some smaller events to shine.

With just 35 entries and five Day 1 survivors, the $25,800 NLH 8-Max is back at midday to play down to a winner.

Also at midday, play begins in the $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($250k), though late registration remains available right up until 4:30 p.m. when level 9 is scheduled to begin.

At 1 p.m., the second starting flight of the $3,000 PLO Mystery Bounty tournament begins. From each buy in, $1,720 enters the prize pool and $1,000 is put into the mystery bounty pool. When players are knocked out on Day 2, the player who claims their bounty receives a randomized prize between $1,000 and $100,000.

Late registration is available for this event until around 8:30 p.m.

The last event of the day is then the $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Turbo ($100k GTD). Late registration in this fast paced event comes around by about 9 p.m.

Wynn Summer Classic Daily Recap: Jun Obara Leads Final Nine Of Wynn Summer Championship

Jun Obara.
Jun Obara.

July 1 at the Wynn Summer Classic was a flurry of activity.

On the schedule, players could find two one-day $1,100 NLH events, the $25,800 No Limit Hold'em 8-Max final table, a $25,800 No Limit Hold'em 8-Max satellite, and Day 3 of the $10,400 Wynn Summer Championship.

The last of these is the festival's main event, which played down to the final table, currently led by Jun Obara.

Wynn Summer Championship Final Nine Confirmed

Jun Obara
Jun Obara.

The Wynn Summer Championship is down to the final nine players from a starting field of 1,537 entries. With its $10,400 buy in, the high turnout the event has put $15,062,600 in the prize pool.

Eighty-one players returned to the action yesterday hungry for their chunk of that pie. However, only nine now remain.

Leading the final table is Jun Obara with 16,275,000. He has a small lead over Michael Sklenicka (14,550,000) in second place and an only slightly longer lead over Mario Navarro Arrocha (12,650,000) in third.

Also at the table is Yulian Bogdanov (6,725,000) a Bulgarian pro who won the $2,500 No Limit Hold'em 6-max during the 2023 Wynn Summer Classic and Daniel Rezaei (4,400,000) and Austrian pro with $4.9 million in live tournament cashes according to The Hendon Mob.

The final table will be back at midday today for Day 4 — the last day of the tourney.

Ponakovs Beats Sturm Heads Up To Win $25k 8-Max

Aleksejs Ponakovs
Aleksejs Ponakovs.

Day 1 of the $25,800 No Limit Hold'em 8-Max ground the field down from 41 entries to seven over the course of just one day's action.

Yesterday was Day 2 of the event, and it finished the job off, playing down to a winner. When the grinder had stopped turning, Aleksejs Ponakovs was the only player left standing.

Leon Sturm came into the final table with a slight chip lead, but there was still everything to play for and the rogue's gallery of sharks and high roller regs that he was up against weren't going to make it easy.

However, he held on to the last minute, only falling out of contention during heads up play, coming in second and earning $295,225 after he cut a deal with Ponakovs.

Leon Sturm

Ponakovs's post-deal cut was $297,150, taken from a total prize pool of $1,025,000.

Only the top six cashed, so Santhosh Suvarna in seventh went away empty-handed, but the rest of the final table — including Sam Soverel (4th - $117,875) — earned at least $62,600 for their trouble.

There will be another $25,800 No Limit Hold'em 8-Max event tomorrow.

What's Happening On July 2?

Tomorrow is another five-course meal of mostly no limit hold'em events with a PLO mystery bounty thrown in for spice.

Up first is the Wynn Summer Championship final table. This is the last day of the Wynn Summer Classic's flagship event. With over $15 million in the pot, it will be an exciting showdown. The final table kicks off at 12 p.m.

At the same time, the cry of "shuffle up and deal" goes out for the $1,600 No Limit Hold'em event. Late registration is open until around 4:30 p.m., once players have completed eight 30-minute blind levels plus a couple of breaks.

The $3,000 PLO Mystery Bounty starts at 1 p.m. This will be Day 1A of two starting flights. The second will be held tomorrow. Players have until around 8:30 p.m. to register.

At 2 p.m., the stakes go way up with the $25,800 No Limit Hold'em 8-Max. This is a duplicate of the event that finished earlier today, and like that event, this one is expected to run for two days. The final call for registration isn't until 9:30 p.m., but players who buy in before the event starts can benefit from a small discount.

Last but not least is the $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Turbo, the backbone of this festival. This event is structured like the previous versions — 20-minute blind levels, 30,000 in the starting stacks, late registration until around 9 p.m.
