GPL Results, Standings, and Schedule After Summer Series Heat III: Moscow With Edge in Eurasia; Montreal Ahead in Americas

Global Poker League

Welcome to the weekly rundown of the Global Poker League here on PokerNews. In this space, all of the past week's results from the GPL will be listed, followed by league standings and a look at the following week's schedule.

As seen on Poker Central, the league yesterday completed its "Summer Series Heat III," albeit with one postponed match (explained below). The "Summer Series" features six "heats" of interconference three-game heads-up matches in "The Cube," each pitting a team from the Americas Conference versus one from the Eurasia Conference

After the Americas Conference dominated Summer Series Heat I (winning all six matches) and again had the advantage for Heat II (winning four of six), it was again the Americas Conference winning three of five matches this week, with one match between the London Royals and Montreal Nationals postponed to a later date.

There were no sweeps this week, with each winner taking two of three games. Anatoly Filatov kicked things off for the Moscow Wolverines last Sunday by winning two of three games against the Las Vegas Moneymakers' Jonathan Little. Then Brian Rast got a much-needed win for the Berlin Bears by winning two of three against Kevin MacPhee of the New York Rounders.

Joao Simao of the Sao Paulo Metropolitans next won two of three over Raiden Kan of the Hong Kong Stars, Chance Kornuth of the L.A. Sunset won 2-1 versus Walter Treccarichi of the Rome Emperors, then Anton Wigg of the San Francisco Rush rounded out Heat III yesterday winning two of three from Mike Leah of the Paris Aviators.

Heading into Summer Series Heat IV, the Montreal Nationals still top the Americas Conference where there was zero change among the six teams. Meanwhile the Moscow Wolverines have nudged in front in the Eurasia Conference where they sit just ahead of the Hong Kong Stars and London Royals.

Heat IV has already begun, in fact, with a late afternoon match on Wednesday between two team managers, the Moscow Wolverines' Anatoly Filatov and the New York Rounders' Bryn Kenney. Filatov won two of three games in that one, adding a little more to Moscow's Eurasia lead with most of Heat IV still to be played in the coming days.

Here are the full results from GPL Summer Series Heat III, with the standings heading into Heat IV (excluding that first Heat IV match) listed down below:
