Sergio Aido Among Big Stacks in Poker King Cup Macau High Roller

Sergio Aido

Day 1 of the 2018 Poker King Cup Macau HK$80,000 (~$10,200) High Roller is in the books after nine levels of play. In total, 54 entries were collected over the day and 36 of them managed to find a bag to tag at the end.

The most fearsome name found near the top of the chip counts is that of Sergio Aido. The Spanish player has amassed north of $10 million in poker cashes between his fantastic results live and online and certainly looks to be one of the favorites in the event after the preliminary stages of play.

Taking the overnight chip lead is Duan Chao from China with 181,500 in chips.

Chao has just over $90,000 in recorded lifetime tournament winnings and will be looking to add a chunk to that tomorrow, right here at the Venetian Macau Resort & Hotel. But it won’t be easy. There are still some more players in contention for that title and trophy tomorrow. Trailing in second place in the chip counts is Mingqin Liu with 160,300. And closing the podium for today is another Chinese player, Xiaqing Ji with 137,600 in chips.

Some other notable names in the running include Ziang Zhu (106,000), Tony Chang (94,900), Peter Chan (80,400), and Ye Wang (77,700), and all have bagged an above average stack to start Day 2 with. Players like Aaron Lim (52,500), Mark Hammond (37,000), Phachara Wongwichit (26,900), and Preston Lee (14,900) have got some work to do with their stacks.

Defending champion Chung Yuan Yu had to use two bullets to make it through to Day 2 and takes 40,700 with him. The player he beat heads up last year, Phanlert Sukonthachartnant, managed to double up in the last hand of the day and scraped through with 28,800 in the end.

Play will continue Friday at 1 p.m. local time with Level 10, at 800/1,600/200. The late registration and reentry period will still be open then and remain open until the start of Level 13.

Make sure to come back to see who will be crowned the PKC High Roller Champion tomorrow as the PokerNews live reporting team will be there from start till end.
