Becker Beware: Landon Tice Ships Wynn Millions Event for $32,025

Wynn Millions

Landon Tice's summer crossbook with Jeremy Becker may not yet be underway, but the "child of the sim" is already heating up. On Wednesday, Tice took down a 2024 Wynn Millions Poker Series $400 buy-in event for $32,025 and his first Wynn trophy.

The victory for Tice, who topped a 512-player field after coming into Day 2 with 20 big blinds, shows that he means business in his upcoming high-stakes bet with Becker, which was set up by Daniel Negreanu and stipulates that both players crossbook 25 mutually played events between May 28 and July 1.

Tice took a bit of a shot at Becker in his winner's photo, giving a yawn while holding up Becker's trademark three-five offsuit.

But Tice has some catching up to do. The victory marked his first live victory since November 2020, when he took down the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Venetian $1,100 Main Event for $201,529. Since then, Becker has won 38 live tournaments, according to The Hendon Mob.

The festival is in full swing at Wynn Las Vegas with more than $8 million in guaranteed prize pools from Feb. 19-March 24. It will culminate with the $3,500 buy-in Wynn Millions Championship, has already awarded several trophies and five-figure prizes.

Eric Baldwin, Myles Mullaly Win Wynn Trophies

The biggest score of the series so far went to a familiar face in Eric Baldwin, who topped a field of 1,085 runners in a $600 No Limit Hold'em event for $96,909 as the Vegas-based grinder added to his $8.4 million in live earnings.

The final table included fellow Vegas-based players Jay Fredricksen (8th - $12,772) and Aaron Massey (3rd - $48,713), as well as North Carolina's Paul Taylor, who finished runner-up for $63,335.

Baldwin, a two-time bracelet winner best known for a runner-up finish in the 2010 World Poker Tour (WPT) Five Star World Poker Classic for $1 million, received love on social media from a few notable players, including 2021 Wynn Millions champion Andrew Moreno and the Wynn daily assassin himself.

Another player to land a decent Wynn Millions score was New York's Myles Mullaly, who got through a field of 714 players in a $600 No Limit Hold'em event for $66,856. The young grinder had his first-ever live cash at last year's Wynn Signature Series and followed it up with a sixth-place finish in the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Millionaire Maker for $287,522.

Meanwhile, the Ladies Event trophy went to California's Qing Lu as she defeated the 85-runner field for $8,573 in the $400 buy-in event.

Some other players to pick up trophies in the first week of Wynn Millions action include Las Vegas' Stephen Sola ($500 No Limit Hold'em - $23,159) and Hani Awad ($400 HORSE - $12,120), Israel's Samuel Camhi ($200 NLH Turbo - $5,032) and Spain's David Perez ($200 NLH Turbo - $4,730).

There's still plenty of action to come, including the $3 million guaranteed Wynn Millions Championship that gets underway on March 7 and the $1.5 million guaranteed Mystery Bounty event starting on March 14, both of which will be live reported by PokerNews.
