Ludovic Geilich Wins WPT Cyprus Mystery Bounty; Ilia Kitsbabahvili Claims Two Side Event Titles
Table Of Contents
The World Poker Tour (WPT) at the Chamada Prestige Hotel & Casino may currently be focused on the $3,500 buy-in, $2 million GTD WPT Cyprus Championship – which you can follow here – but did you know the stop is a full festival offering a combined $5 million in guaranteed prize pools?
The 13-day schedule included the $1,650 NLH Take Off, which kicked things off by attracting 260 players who rebought 92 times. There was a €400,000 prize pool up for grabs, and Aykutalp Yilmaz walked away with the lion’s share, winning the tournament for €86,700.
Well-known Scottish poker pro Ludovic Geilich (lead photo) made his presence known in the $2,200 NLH Mystery Bounty, which ran from August 8-10. That tournament drew 372 players who rebought 188 times, meaning a €721,680 prize pool was awarded. Geilich ended up the victor and took down the €56,380 top prize plus whatever bounties he claimed along the way.
Another name that stood out was Ilia Kitsbabahvili, who won two side events in less than a week. First, on August 10, he bested a 139-player field to win the $1,100 NLH Freezeout for €34,430, and then four days later on August 14 he overcame a 182-entry field to win the $1,100 PLO Bounty for €15,250.
WPT Global’s Patrick Tardif Makes High Roller FT
One of the most anticipated events on the schedule was the $5,300 Chamada High Roller that ran from August 11-13. That tournament saw 230 players rebuy 67 times, which meant the 297-entry field generated a massive €1,115,500 prize pool.
The biggest name to make the final table was WPT Global Ambassador Patrick Tardif, perhaps better known to the masses as “Egption.” Unfortunately for the Canadian, his run came to an unceremonious end in sixth place, good for €49,000.
In the end, Aleksey Tsessarsky was crowned the official winner and received €173,000 in prize money.
