Day 1a Completed
The title of chip leader on Day 1a of the 888poker Live Barcelona Main Event waited until the last hand of the night to be awarded before Chang Tan snatched it in dramatic fashion.
Tan spiked a one-outer to make a full house and stun Koen De Visscher, who was left holding a smaller full house in a pot worth more than 500,000. Tan ended up with 574,000 and a commanding chip lead over the surviving 10 players.

Eric Sucias busted three players on the last level to bag up 378,000, good for second place behind Tan. The 21-year-old personal trainer first filled up with pocket sixes to take out Adrian Ibanescu, then came from behind with ace-queen against ace-king to bust another player. He finally silenced the gregarious Norwegian Aleksander Falch with ace-high.
Local favorite Ariel “Galactico” Faskowicz (367,000), Antonio Lopez (341,000), and Alin Grasu (315,000) round out the top five. Other players to advance include Joan Morgo (282,000), Guillem Nuez (190,000), and Jonathan Levy (71,000).
A total of 59 players came to Casino Barcelona for the first starting flight today. Among those to hit the rail were Gabi Livshitz, Darya Hulyk, Harcharan Dogra, former chip leader Nil Esteve, and Alexander Sokolovsky. They still have three more starting flights to go if they want to take another shot at the title.
Day 1b begins tomorrow at 3 p.m. local time, followed by Day 1c on May 16. There is also a turbo Day 1d flight at 11 a.m. on May 17, with all surviving players combining for Day 2 at 5 p.m. later that day. Late registration remains open until the start of Day 2, with unlimited reentries allowed. None of the 888poker ambassadors joined the field today, Ian Simpson, Vivian Saliba, and Lucia Navarro all making the final table of the High Roller which was taking place at the same time in another part of the casino. They’re expected to hop in over the coming days.
PokerNews will be back providing live updates from Day 1b tomorrow.

Day 1a has ended with 10 players remaining out of 59 entries.
Stay tuned for full chip counts and a recap of the day's action.
The biggest pot of Day 1a waited until the very last hand of the night.
Chang Tan bet 13,000 from the button on a board of 5♠5♣8♠K♥ and Koen De Visscher called in the big blind.
The river was the 7♦ and De Visscher led out for 15,000. Tan then raised to 65,000 and De Visscher moved all in for 210,000. Tan took a few moments but eventually called, creating a pot worth nearly 500,000.
De Visscher showed 7♣5♦ for a full house, but Tan had hit a one-outer on the 7♠7♥ river to make a better full house and send De Visscher to the rail.
Tan stacked up more than 550,000 after that hand and took a commanding chip lead over the 10 survivors from the day.

Darya Hulyk shoved for her last 19,000 in the hijack and Antonio Lopez called in the big blind. "I didn't see," Hulyk said as they went to turn over their cards.
Darya Hulyk: 8♣8♥
Antonio Lopez: Q♣10♣
Hulyk had woken up with a pair, but Lopez hit top pair on the 10♠6♠3♠ flop to move into the lead. The rest of the board ran out 9♥A♣ and Lopez sent Hulyk to the rail.
"See you tomorrow?" Lopez asked.
"No, that's it. I'm done," Hulyk replied.

Eric Sucias raised to 10,000 on the button, Aleksander Falch moved all in for 65,000 in the big blind, and Sucias called.
Aleksander Falch: K♠Q♥
Eric Sucias: A♣10♣
The 9♥8♦5♣2♣4♥ board kept Sucias' ace-high in the lead and Falch, a commanding presence in the room throughout the day with his seemingly endless table banter, was finally silenced.
At the other table, Kristian Larsson had moved all in for 55,000 in the hijack and Antonio Lopez called in the big blind.
Kristian Larsson: 8♦8♣
Antonio Lopez: J♣J♥
Larsson was crushed by Lopez's jacks and found no help on the 5♣2♦3♦Q♥5♥ board to become another late-night casualty.

Tournament officials announced that players will see six more hands before bagging up for the night.
A player in early position moved all in for 75,000 and Eric Sucias called in the big blind.
All-In Player: A♠K♥
Eric Sucias: A♦Q♦
The at-risk player had Sucias dominated and was poised for a knockout until the flop brought Q♠9♦10♦, giving Sucias not only top pair but also the nut flush draw. The rest of the board ran out 6♠4♠ and Sucias scored the knockout.

Nil Esteve moved all in for 50,000 from the button and Joan Morgo put him at risk in the big blind.
Nil Esteve: A♦9♠
Joan Morgo: K♦7♦
Morgo hit two pair on the K♥J♠7♥ flop to take a big lead in the pot, and the A♠ turn wasn't enough to save Esteve as the 3♣ completed the board on the river to send Esteve, who held the chip lead for a big portion of the day, to the rail with just a few minutes left on the clock.
