Pinar Spikes the River Against the Champ

Level 9 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Carlos Pinar raised to 2,000 under the gun, Dean Lyall three-bet to 6,500 in the hijack, and Pinar called.

The flop came AQK and Lyall continued for 1,700. Pinar called to the 7 turn, where Lyall bet another 13,000. Pinar then moved all in for 40,600, and Lyall snap-called.

Pinar showed AQ for two pair, but Lyall had AK for aces and kings and was poised for the knockout until the Q fell on the river. A collective gasp arose from the table as Pinar spiked a full house to win the pot, earning a double up off the defending champion.

Heads-up on a board of 8Q52, Nicholas Swann bet 8,000 from the big blind and Shuyi Rong called on the button.

The river was the 7 and Swann bet another 28,500. Rong again called, and Swann showed 64 for a straight to win the big pot.

A few hands earlier at this table, Swann had called a bet of 27,000 on the river with two queens against Rong, who could only show a bluff as Swann built up his stack close to 200,000.
