Day 1c Completed

Donald "Doc" Brown Bags Big on Day 1C

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Donald Brown
Donald Brown

Another flight is in the books at the Ante Up Poker Tour $250 Main Event as Day 1C came to an end with just 15 players finding a bag after 14 levels. After a strong finish to the day, Donald Brown emerged as the chip leader and will return to 288,000 chips on Day 2.

The day started off a bit shaky for Brown, who calls himself "Doc", as his pocket aces were cracked twice and pocket kings even lost as well in the early going. However, he managed to hold on to some chips and found some crucial spots for double ups and even tripled up once. It was a strong push near the end where he eliminated Aaron Thivyanathan to take over the chip lead.

Some other big stacks to join Brown from the Day 1C flight include Mike Taylor (231,500), Jin Chen (220,000), Marv Karlins (187,500), and Efim Kochner (187,000). They will join the rest of the players from the starting flights on Day 2 which will take place on February 10th at 1 p.m. where a champion will be crowned.

The action for the third flight got underway at 6 p.m. with just under 20 players taking their seats but that number quickly grew just like the other starting days. With late registration open for over four hours, it attracted a total of 87 entries — most notably seeing Anthony Dianaty fire off five bullets alone tonight without bagging chips.

Coming back from the last break of the night with just two tables remaining, it was a fight to see who could outlast the others in order to make Day 2. Unfortunately for players like Mehdi Belhassan, Aaron Thivyanathan, and Dritan Shkupi, they were eliminated in the last couple levels of the night.

Brown Finishing Strong

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Donald Brown just recently eliminated Aaron Thivyanathan from the competition and he was ready to get involved in another big pot before the night ended.

Marv Karlins opened to 15,000 in middle position and Brown three-bet to 43,000 from the big blind. Karlins mulled it over for a minute but decided to fold and showed the {a-Diamonds}. Brown flashed {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and sent a little smile to the other end of the table.

"I knew you didn't have a pair or the raise would have been bigger," Brown chuckled as he collected the pot.

Chen Sends Two Packing

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 2,400 ante

The action folded to Jin Chen in the hijack who made it 15,000 to go. The button shoved all in for 44,200 and Mehdi Belhassan also pushed all in from the small blind for a little less. The action was back on Chen who asked for a count before making the call.

Jin Chen: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Mehdi Belhassan: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Button: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Chen was in great shape, only having to dodge one of the two remaining aces in the deck. The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts} to give Chen the best hand and eliminate both of his opponents.

Queens are Lucky for Nguyen

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 2,400 ante
Tom Nguyen
Tom Nguyen

Tom Nguyen raised to 6,500 from under the gun and was flat-called by a player in middle position. The button pushed in a raise to around 40,000 which forced the blinds out but Nguyen shoved all in for 50,800. The player in middle position and the button snap-called.

Tom Nguyen: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Opponent: {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}

Nguyen was in a great position to double up with the superior pocket pair and the runout of {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} ensured he would do so.
