When we came to Dan Kelly's table there was a flop showing and Kelly was in the hand against one opponent.
Kelly's opponent checked to Kelly who bet 1,800. A call from the player and the would be dealt on the turn. The play was again checked to Kelly who would continue his aggression with a bet of 2,600. Kelly's opponent went into the tank and then let his cards go as Kelly raked in another pot.
The action was opened by Brendon Rubie to 650 from early position. The player on the button made the call, along with both players in the blinds.
All four players checked as the flop was dealt and the would hit the turn. This time the play would be checked to Rubie and he would bet 1,700. The button folded and the small blind player made the call, while the big blind also got out of the way.
The completed the board on the river and the play would again be checked to Rubie. A bet of 2,550 from Rubie would be called by his opponent.
When Rubie turned over his , it was enough to send his opponent's card into the muck as Rubie now sits behind a much healthier stack than earlier.
When we went to Jonathan Karamalikis' table there was board spread and David Steicke's stack was getting pushed in the direction of Karamalikis.
Karamalikis held for a flush, while Steicke held for a pair of eights. Apparently all of Steicke's chips went in the middle on the flop. Unfortunate loss for Steicke, while Karamalikis now sits behind one of the largest stack in the room.
When we came to Billy Argyros' table there was a board showing and Argyros was in a hand with two opponents. One of those opponents was Sam Khouiss and it would be him who would get into the most trouble.
It was Argyros who was first to act and he would check, along with the other player in the hand. Khouiss then bet 3,100 and Argyros popped it to 11,000. The other player got out of the way and Khouiss moved all in for a small portion more. Argyos threw in the call and the two players turned their hands over.
Argyros:
Khouiss:
It was Argyros with a flush versus Khouiss' set and when there was no three or paired board for Khouiss, it was all over for the Australian veteran poker player.
As you very well know, this ANZPT Sydney event is the first stop on the fourth season of the popular tour. But what happened in season three, you may ask?
A total of 1,746 players took part in Season III of the ANZPT, creating a total prize pool of AUD$3,692,040.
During that time, numerous stars arose including Octavian Voegele, who won $148,900 after defeating 253 players at the ANZPT Adelaide. Likewise, Grant Levy conquered a field of 220 players at ANZPT Perth to win a $131,500 prize.
Finally, how can we forget Lee Nelson’s win at the ANZPT Melbourne for $156,550, giving him an ANZPT title to go along with his 2006 Aussie Millions Poker Championship crown.
All in all, season three was a very memorable one and hopefully this season is shaping up to be just the same.
We had another walk through the Oasis Room and noticed Tom Wing has been eliminated from the tournament. Apparently he was unlucky when he got plenty of chips in with against and then couldn't get any luck when he got all his chips in with a massive draw. And with that, it's back to Melbourne for the young player.
