Wenjian Qiu Eliminated in 14th Place (NZ$5,950)

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Jon Pierre Narbey continues to run white hot with a massive cooler of a flop that saw him send William Qiu crashing to the rail.
We picked it up on the turn with the board already reading {4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. Qiu led out for 20,000 from the blinds and Narbey called as Asj Taylor got out of the way before the {9-Clubs} completed the board.

With straight, flush and full house possibilities out there, Qiu quickly announced himself all in for a total of 94,000. Narbey thought for a few moments before making the call.

Qiu proudly opened {6-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for the flopped six-high straight but that was trumped by Narbey who tabled {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for the seven-high straight. Qiu was out in 14th as Narbey is now a clear chip leader with a stack of 380,000.

Madis Muur Eliminated in 15th Place (NZ$5,950)

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Madis Muur - 15th place
Madis Muur - 15th place

The first in-the-money elimination has just occurred.

All the chips went in on the turn of a {q-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds} board, with Muur holding {9-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and needing some help against the {a-Spades}{j-Spades} of Wenjian Qiu.

The {8-Spades} river wasn't what Muur was looking for as the player from Estonia was eliminated in 15th place, for which he collected NZ$5,950.

There are now two seven-handed tables.

Bubble Burst, 15 in the Money

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

The bubble has burst and sadly its one of the locals as Karl Radel is the official APPT Queenstown bubble boy.

Action folded to Daniel Laidlaw on the button who clicked it up to 8,000. Radel moved all in for around 45,000 from the small blind but Laidlaw quickly called. They held back their cards until the other table completed their action, but when Radel already knew his {a-Clubs}{j-Spades} was in trouble as Laidlaw opened {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}.

The flop was a bare {10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} but the {10-Diamonds} turn brought the possibility of a chop. It wasn’t to be as the {7-Diamonds} completed the board to leave Radel, who won the very last satellite here at SKYCITY Queenstown, to depart empty-handed.

The remaining 15 players were happy to be in the money, but Chiu Yeung Lee seemed particularly relieved as he walked over to Laidlaw to personally thank him for popping the bubble.

Handy Double For Chon

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Madis Muur opened with a min-raise from under the gun and Michael Chon made the call to see a flop of {9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}. Muur made a continuation bet of 8,500 and Chon called before the {6-Diamonds} appeared on the turn.

Muur checked it over to Chon who casually splashed 20,000 in to the middle. It didn’t take Muur long to respond as he grabbed a stack of orange 5,000-denomination chips and slid them into the middle to put Chon to a decision for his tournament.

Chon had 42,000 behind and thought for several moments before giving a shrug and calling with {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. Muur sighed and revealed {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} for just overcards. The river fell the {9-Diamonds} to see Chon land a big double up to 165,000 with Muur now down to 70,000.

Hand-for-Hand play continues!

Kyrian Gone, Hand-for-Hand Begins

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Jakub Kyrian has just been eliminated in a meaningless 17th place. He was all in for his short stack preflop holding {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and was up against the {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} of Jonathan Bredin. The {7-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} board gave Kyrian a flush draw sweat on the turn, but the river was of no help as he was sent to the rail.

There are now 16 players remaining and we are on the bubble. Play is now hand-for-hand.

Colin Doubles Through Raj

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Madis Muur opened to 8,000 and Raj Ramakrishnan made the call before Colin Carpenter announced himself all in from the big blind for an additional 47,500. Muur folded but Ramakrishnan took a few moments to consider his options.

“Ok, gamble!” declared Ramakrishnan as he tabled {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs} but Carpenter was in front of that with his {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}.

Carpenter couldn’t watch as the board was spread {6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{9-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, leaving his queens to double through to over 120,000.
“Back to where I started,” chuckled Ramakrishnan as he slips to 55,000.

Aces, Aces, Everywhere

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Jon Pierre Narbey is on one hell of a heater right now. After winning a nice pot with three streets of value holding pocket aces against Asj Taylor, Narbey found {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} once again just a few hands later. Narbey raised to 7,000 and found three callers. Narbey again got maximum value, betting 21,000 on the flop, 23,000 on the turn and 30,000 on the river on a board of {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{7-Hearts} with Raj Ramakrishan check-calling the whole way.

Ramakrishnan sighed when he was showed the rockets as he tossed {j-Clubs}{j-Spades} face up into the muck.

“I’ve been waiting all tournament for these cards,” chuckled Narbey as he raked in the pot.

Ramakrishnan slips to 120,000 with Narbey now one of our chip leaders with 260,000 chips.

Four Sevens is a Good Hand

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

There was already over 30,000 in the pot and a {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop on the felt when we arrived at Table 2. Raj Ramakrishnan had checked over to his lone opponent Geoff Smith. After thinking for quite some time, Smith moved all in for about 30,000. Ramakrishnan called quicker than can be described by the English language and tabled {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} for flopped quads. Smith turned over his {k-Clubs}{k-Spades} and watched a {5-Spades} turn and a {a-Hearts} river before making his way out of the tournament area.

There are now 17 players remaining and we are two players off the money.
