Painful Flop for Demlakian

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

2012 ANZPT Queenstown runner-up Ken Demlakian has just let us know over here at the media desk that he has been eliminated from Day 1a of the ANZPT Sydney Main Event. It wasn't pretty either.

Apparently Demlakian got all his chips in with {a-}{a-} and was up against {k-}{q-}.

Good news!

Bad news?

Flop: {3-}{q-}{q-}

No help on the turn and river and Demlakian was sent packing.

Another River Full House for Young

Level 7 : 400/800, 75 ante

Rory Young has done it again.

Young recently hit a big river to make a full house to double up and now he has made another full house on the river.

This time Young had opened with a raise from middle position holding {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} and a short-stacked opponent three-bet all in holding {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts} from the cut off. Young put in the extra chips and with a {a-Spades}{7-Hearts}{q-Hearts} was looking like losing a chunk of his stack.

The {q-Clubs} turn would see Young with some outs and when an {8-Hearts} hit the river, Young had made a full house to send a player home.

Westmorland with Late Surge

Level 7 : 400/800, 75 ante

Previously Thailand-based, now Gold Coast based, USA-born Australian poker regular Jordan Westmorland (say that three times quickly) has recently seen his stack move to around 60,000. We recently watched Westmorland betting a large 11,500 into a pot of around 20,000 on the turn of a {3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{5-Hearts} board. Westmorland’s lone opponent went deep into the tank and eventually opted to fold.

Westmorland’s best result in an ANZPT was back in 2012 in Queenstown where he finished 3rd.

Argyros Snapping Up Chips

Level 7 : 400/800, 75 ante

Billy “The Croc” Argyros has seen his stack move to around 50,000.

Argyros informed us that he managed to gain plenty of those chips recently when he held {j-}{j-} and got all the chips in on the turn of a {j-Diamonds}{9-}{4-Diamonds}{q-Spades} board, with his opponent holding {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} for a big flush draw and straight draw. The river was a black king and Argyros sent one home.

Huge River Save for Young

Level 7 : 400/800, 75 ante

Rory Young was recently out of his chair and ready to leave the tournament area.

But his fate changed and now he is one of the larger stacks in the room.

The hand in question occurred on a {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}{6-Hearts} in a five-way hand. There was already around 10,000 in the middle at this point and Young was the first to act with a check. Ryan Hong bet 3,400 and the other three players in the hand folded to see it back on Young. After a few moments, Young raised it up to 8,800. Hong then moved all in with his big stack for effectively 27,300. Young called and tabled {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} for a set of aces. Hong had {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} for a flush draw.

The {3-Hearts} turn was the card that saw Young ready to leave as Hong had made a flush.

Then a {3-Diamonds} hit the river and Young had made a full house to move to around 65,000.

Lee Steadying

Level 7 : 400/800, 75 ante

At one stage Alex Lee had moved his stack towards six figures but has steadied at around 70,000. Lee recently scooped a pot on a {a-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Spades} board. He was up against one opponent and by the time a river had been dealt, there was already a whole lot of chips in the middle. The player led for 10,000 and Lee tank-called. At showdown, Lee’s {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} was enough to pick up the pot.
