The action is vritually nil right now. Almost all of the railbirds that were here earlier have departed. Apparently they had no interest in watching what has turned into a real slog as we come down to the final table. Who can blame them? There is so little action that when Steven Silverman was all in, everyone from the other table got up to watch the hand play out.
The blinds have gone up again, however. Perhaps that will help stimulate play.
Steven Silverman dodged a bullet. He raised all in for 36,000 after Van Marcus had limped in from the small blind. Marcus snap-called, tabling . He was far ahead of Silverman's , but a seven on the flop and the on the turn made an unbeatable hand for Silverman. The river completed the board.
Silverman now has 73,000 and new life. Marcus slips to 84,000.
Eric Assadourian got up from this table to watch David Steicke eliminate Michael McDonald. Once the hand was concluded, Assadourian said, "Dave, while you're at it -- two more people please."
It was a case of "so close but so far" for Michael "Timex" McDonald. He raised to 5,500 from middle position and was called by David "the Machine" Steicke from the big blind. Steicke led out for 5,500 after the dealer burned and turned a flop of . On the turn , Steicke bet 20,000 and McDonald, with only 28,000 total in his stack, shipped it in. Steicke called (naturally) and tabled . McDonald had and needed an ace or king to stay alive. The river was the .
With that pot, Steicke is the first player to cross the 300,000-chip mark.
Mike "Timex" McDonald raised it up to 5,500 from under the gun and David Steicke once again defended his small blind with a call.
The flop came and Steicke led out with a bet of 5,000. McDonald made the call. The turn was the and Steicke fired a healthy 20,000. McDonald called once more. The river brought the and Steicke bet out another 20,000. McDonald called with for top pair, top kicker, but Steicke held the best hand with his .
Andrew Scott summed it up best when he said "Steicke you can do no wrong!" as Steicke now holds about 270,000 chips. McDonald is now one of the short stacks with 42,000.
With very little change occuring in the stacks of the remaining players, each hand that goes to the river has real significance. Nam Le raised a recent pot to 4,800 and was called by Wei Will Ma and Eric Assadourian. The flop was all babies, . Le made a continuation bet of 8,500 that was called only by Ma. Both players checked the that hit the turn. Le again checked the river , but couldn't get Ma to fire at the pot. Ma checked behind, then mucked when Le showed .
The remaining two tables have attracted a small crowd of railbirds. Notable faces in the crowd include Celina Lin, Emad Tahtouh, and 2008 APPT Macau Main Event winner Edward Sabat.
The blinds are up again which will put a little more pressure on the short stacks as we approach the final table, although no player is desperate at this stage. The blinds are now 1,000/2,000 with a 300 chip ante.
We'll be playing 45 minutes of this level until the next break.
