Almost Set to Go

Welcome to the Hyatt Hotel & Casino in Manila, the Philippines, the latest stop on the Asia Pacific Poker Tour. Last season Brett Parise was crowned the champion, winning almost $180,000 in the process.

Day 1 will be split across two flights. Currently 112 players are on the starter list for Day 1A, but that number is sure to increase with late registrations. We will play nine levels today, with a dinner break occurring at the end of Level 6.

APPT President Jeffrey Haas delivered some brief opening remarks about the growth of poker in the region. The players are now being treated to a traditional drum and dance ceremony by some local artists. At the conclusion of this ceremony, TD Danny McDonagh will announce the magic words, "Shuffle up and deal!" and we'll be underway.

Welcome to Manila!

The fourth leg of the 2008 PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour brings us to Hyatt Hotel and Casino in Manila, Philippines for the $2,350 Main Event. Last year 22 year-old Brett Parise made history when he became the first ever winner of an APPT event, outlasting a field of 255 players to pocket $179,775 -- one of the largest ever tournament prizes awarded in Asia at the time. Will we see an even bigger field this time around?

We're expecting a large local contingent as this event will also serve as the final event of the blossoming Filipino Poker Tour. However they will have their work cut out for them as they look to take on the overseas professionals who are starting to arrive in town. The field will be headlined by Team PokerStars pro Lee "Final Table" Nelson, Celina Lin, John Phan, JJ Liu, APPT Macau champion Eddy Sabat, APPT Seoul champion Yoshihiro Tasaka and APPT Macau High Roller runner-up Andrew Scott. They will also have to survive a sea of PokerStars.net online qualifiers who will once again make up a large percentage of the field.

All the action kicks off at 12:30p.m. local time, so stay tuned to PokerNews.com for every flop, turn and river, live as it happens from the tournament floor!
