The Beast is Tamed

Kinkade gone
Kinkade gone
After a raise and a reraise, all the chips were flying into the middle in a hand between Mark Deutsch and Jay "Seabeast" Kinkade.

Deutsch tabled a powerful {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} as Kinkade would need some help with his {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. He couldn't find it on a {5-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{7-Spades}{10-Hearts} board as Deutsch claimed another big scalp with the elimination of Jay Kinkade.

Deutsch now sits with 41,000 chips.

Jessop Hangs on for the Ride

The roller-coaster day of Sam Jessop has continued, as he just found a much needed double-up. After recently bleeding chips, Jessop committed his final 5,000 chips on a {10-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop, holding {J-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} for top pair, and found a caller in the small blind who tabled {K-Clubs}{10-Spades} for middle pair.

The turn was the {7-Diamonds} and river the {6-Hearts} as Jessop's hand held up to rebound to 13,000 chips.

Lee Takes Out Scekic

David Lee
David Lee
David Lee has added a notch to his belt. He called the preflop all-in bet of Jovan Scekic for about 9,000 chips. Scekic held {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts} and was racing against Lee's black jacks. The flop gave Lee a good sweat, coming as it did {4-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}. But Scekic's number was never called; the turn {3-Clubs} and river {9-Diamonds} sent him to the rail.

Dunst Dented by Flush

Three players saw a flop of {10-Spades}{A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} where Tony Dunst fired out a bet of 2,800. The player on the button made the call as the third opponent stepped aside.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and Dunst fired another 6,500. The button player made the call. They went to the river where the {5-Hearts} peeled off, leaving Dunst to check to his opponent who obliged with a 7,000 chip bet. Dunst made the call but mucked when his opponent revealed {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for the rivered flush.

Dunst is now down to 36,000.

Man Down

It was a wild ride for Josh Pang Ang today -- up, down, up, down went his chip stack. It finally reached zero in a big hand against Phil Willcocks. Ang started the hand with 30,000 chips; Willcocks had 60,000. All of the chips went into the middle on a {10-Clubs} {4-Clubs} {8-Hearts} flop. Ang showed {k-Clubs} {2-Clubs} for a king-high flush draw; Willcocks showed {J-Clubs} {9-Clubs} for a jack-high flush draw and an open-ended straight draw. He hit the straight on the turn with the {7-Diamonds} and missed Ang's re-draw outs when the river hit {7-Spades}.

Willcocks is now amongst the Day 1a chip leaders with roughly 90,500 chips.

Top Pair Not Good Enough for Jessop

Sam Jessop
Sam Jessop
Sam Jessop is down with the short stacks after a recent encounter with Zac Romano. Jessop was the one who got things started preflop by raising to 825. Romano, with position, was the only caller.

The flop came down all diamonds -- {K-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}. Jessop fired out a continuation bet of 800 that Romano raised to 1,800. Jessop pondered his action briefly before calling.

On the {5-Spades} turn, Jessop checked it over to Romano, who bet 4,000. Jessop was clearly unhappy as he tanked for about a minute. When he finally folded, he mucked his hand face-up, showing {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}. Romano obliged by showing {A-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} for the nut flush.

Jessop has 9,500 remaining chips.

Lovell Likes the Leaderboard

David Lovell has emerged amongst the tournament chip leaders after collecting a massive pot with a flopped set.

All the chips were in on the river with the board showing {A-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Spades}{J-Clubs} with Lovell's {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} too strong for his opponent who revealed {A-?}{8-?} for two pair.

Lovell is now up to 79,000 chips.
