Linh Tran Holds Massive Lead After 2019 APPT Manila National Day 2

Linh Tran

After twelve 40-minute levels, Day 2 of the 2019 PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour Manila ₱33,000 National is over. With 16 players remaining in the field, Linh Tran has a commanding chip lead over the field with 4,350,000, which equals to more than twenty percent of the total chips in play.

Tran didn't gather much attention during Day 2, but after the redraw in the last three tables, it seemed as if he was winning every small or medium-sized pot. At 27 players left, he was on a three-way all-in with kings against tens, and ace-jack, where he won the side pot versus the tens. At that point, he had 2.5 million chips, and without playing almost any all in at all, he managed to win almost two more million chips until the end of the day.

In total, 178 players got in their seats at the beginning of Day 2, which was the combined number of players from Day 1a and Day 1b, all with the hope of getting at first a spot into the money. This was one of the quickest bubbles ever witnessed since even the tournament officials had to review the last hands to figure out who was the player that finished last before the money. Eventually, it was proved that it was Soo Jo Kim's hand that brought the final elimination before the money, guaranteeing all 81 players a min-cash for ₱62,000.

The eliminations came rapidly after the bubble burst, with Christophe Devaux (64th|₱66,000), Gyeong Byeong Lee (56th|₱70,000), Soo Jo Kim (51st|₱77,500), and Day 1a's chip leader Alex Lee (25th|₱105,000), among those that busted in the money.

In the second place of the chip counts, it is Benigno Jr Ledina who bagged 2,570,000 chips, after a big double up on one of the last hands of the day. Ledina was holding tens and he was facing a shove from Arravind Udayakumar on a jack-jack-nine flop. He eventually called to see his opponent opening eight-nine for a worst pair, with the turn and the river keeping the lead for him. Udayakumar was left with only three big blinds at this point, but he managed to find a couple of double-ups at the end to reach ten blinds, which was his closing stack for the day.

Eran Shaham from Israel is the player who rounds up the top three stacks, and his biggest pot was an ace-king hand that he slowplayed versus Weing He, where he was holding top two pair and He shoved with top pair and zero equity in the hand.

The 16 remaining players are all guaranteed ₱156,000, and they will fight tomorrow for the big prize of ₱4,174,500, along with the National's trophy for the champion.

Udayakumar Crippled by Ledina

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Another big hand took place in the last two tables, resulting in Arravind Udayakumar being left with three big blinds.

The action started from Hogyun Kang who opened to 80,000, with Linh Tran calling from the next seat on his left. Next to act was Udayakumar who reraised to 330,000 from the small blind, and Benigno Jr Ledina was in the big blind. He tanked enough time, causing one of the players to call the clock, which prompted him to call the bet after some more deliberation.

He had 745,000 behind him, and they went heads up to the flop with Udayakumar, after folds of the first two players.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and Udayakumar quickly pushed the rest of his stack in the middle, slightly covering Ledina.

Ledina was struggling to make a decision, with the table calling the clock again on him. He stood up and sat down again more than three times, making the call in the end.

Ledina: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Udayakumar: {8-Spades}{9-Spades}

It took some time to Ledina to realize that he is ahead, as he said that he thought his opponent was holding nines for a full house. He started celebrating saying "Oh, i am ahead!", and the dealer brought the {2-Spades} on the turn and the {8-Hearts} on the river to give him a crucial and big double up.

Last Six Hands

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Tournament officials have drawn for the number of hands to be dealt before players bag up at the end of the night. There will be six hands played before the day concludes.

Qi Xu Eliminated in 17th Place (₱156,000; $3,070)

Eran Shaham opened to 85,000 from under the gun. It folded to Qi Xu in the big blind who shoved for 610,000. Shaham called.

Eran Shaham: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Qi Xu: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

The flop came {4-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{3-Spades} and the {10-Hearts} gave Xu a flush draw. Not that she'd noticed as she had already gotten to her feet, thinking she was drawing dead. The river was the {8-Spades}, however, and she was eliminated in 17th place.

Hilberts Saved by the River

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Hilberts got very close to elimination, but he found the river he wanted to not only stay alive, but also double up.

He was left with 340,000, equally to almost 8 big blinds, and he shoved after Jason Kyle Magbanua opened from early position. Magbanua made the call eventually with {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, to see that he is behind Hilberts' {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}.

The board until the turn was really bad for Hilberts, with the {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} giving a flush to Magbanua.

The {3-Diamonds} on the river though gave a better flush to the Dutch player who managed to double up.

Tran Chips Up Further

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Three players saw a flop of {j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. Benigno Jr Ledina checked to Hogyun Kang who bet 60,000. Chip leader Hoai Linh Tran raised to 170,000 and Kang was the only caller.

The pair checked the {q-Clubs} turn and the river was the {10-Clubs}.

Kang checked once more and Tran bet 215,000. Kang called but was shown {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a rivered two pair by Tran who took down the pot.

Bolei Zhang was left with around six big blinds and he put them in the middle with {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, to get a call from Lee Wang Yong who was holding {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}.

The flop gave some sweat to the players with the {3-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} giving some extra outs to Zhang, but the {8-Hearts} on the turn, and the {k-Clubs} on the river didn't change anything.
