Scekic Doubles Up

On a flop of {10-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, Jovan Scekic checks to Taesin Si, who bets out 12,000 from the button. Scekic check-raises himself all in for an extra 21,000 on top. Taesin calls and opens {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Scekic has {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}. The turn and river blank out, and Scekic doubles through to just under 70,000.

Hachem Eliminates Assiotis

2005 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Hachem is off to a fast start this afternoon. Moments ago, Hachem eliminated Nick Assiotis from the tournament after flopping the stone-cold nuts, holding {J-Spades}{10-Clubs} when the board came {7-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades}.

All of the money went in on the flop, and at the showdown Assiotis revealed the {Q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} for an open-ended straight draw, needing to catch a jack to stay alive. The turn and river blanked out {7-Hearts}, {Q-Diamonds} and Hachem's straight held up to win the pot.

After the hand, the former chiropractor stacked up 112,000 in chips, joining the short list of names with six-figure chip stacks.

Disqualification

At the end of play last night, there was one player's name that did not correspond to the original seating chart. As it turns out, there was an unauthorized player-to-player transfer, which saw Daniel Chua enter the tournament. The transfer was a direct breach of the terms and conditions of the tournament, and Chua has subsequently been disqualified. His disqualification means that his remaining 15,800 in chips have been removed from play, while the buy-in remains in the prizepool.

Bachar Eliminates Seet

From the button, Nathanael Seet made it 5,000 to go before the flop. Ziv Bachar was next to act in the small blind and re-popped it to 12,000. Seet then decided to shove the rest of his chips into the middle and was all in for a total of 14,000; Bachar made the call.

Nathanael: {A-Clubs}{6-Spades}
Ziv: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

The board filled out {10-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{4-Spades}{9-Diamonds} giving Ziv a set of nines and the checkmark for the hand.

Nathanael's elimination was just one of the many we've seen in just the first 40 minutes of play. We're already lost 12 players and are now down to just 64.

Poker Gods Show No Mercy for Isabelle

Our media table is set up in the corner of the Grand Waldo's poker room and about two minutes after the first card was dealt we felt a slight breeze whisk past, as Isabelle Mercier ran by us trying to get to her seat.

If she could do it all over again, she might have chosen to take a bit more time . . . Moments after she took her seat, she ran pocket kings into an opponent's pocket aces and was eliminated from the tournament.

Man Down!

Not even two minutes into the start of the day's play, we've lost our first player. Though we didn't get his name, we know that Celina Lin was the player who knocked him out when her pocket kings held up against the unknown player's A-J.
