Chronis Feeling the Crunch

Chris Chronis on the slide
Chris Chronis on the slide
Chris Chronis has found chips hard to come by as of late. First, Chronis was holding {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} and found a race situation against Craig Bergeron's {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} . An opponent holding {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} also came along for the ride making up a three way all in.

Unfortunately for Chronis, the flop brought {3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} to put him behind. He didn't catch up. With all three players holding similar size stacks, Chronis collected a tiny side pot of 1,500 after eliminating the player with {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}. Bergeron collected the main pot of 15,800.

Only a few hands later, Chronis raised the pot to 1,000 and found a caller. After they took the {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop, his opponent moved all in. After thinking it over for a moment, Chronis decided his now 4,000 chip stack could find a better spot and he mucked his cards.

Cabrera Out

Abel Cabrera Eliminated
Abel Cabrera Eliminated
With five limpers in the pot, Abel Cabrera shoved all in from the small blind for his last 2,225. He was hoping to take down all the dead money uncontested with his {9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}, but Bruno Portaro was wise to his ways as he made the call with {K-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {A-Clubs}{6-Spades}{Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}{7-Spades} and Portaro made a broadway straight, which was more than enough to overcome Cabrera. Portaro jumped to 13,400.

Rodney Lee Eliminated

Hai Bo Chu has tallied another kill. He moved all in over the top of an open-shove for 2,825 by Rodney Lee. Lee had the better hand before the flop, {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} against Chu's {A-Spades} {J-Clubs}. He had the worse hand after the {9-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {3-Clubs} flop. The turn {J-Spades} gave Chu trips and the lock hand. He made an unnecessary full house with the {9-Diamonds} river.

Scheduling Note

The players were informed by tournament staff that the plan is to take the next scheduled break at the completion of Level 4 and then play two more levels before being sent to dinner. That means that the dinner break will arrive at approximately 7:20pm local time.

Veenhuyzen Continues Charge

Max Veenhuyzen continues to move up the leaderboard. In the latest action, Veenhuyzen's {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts} would flop top pair on the {9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop.

Both players checked, and Veenhuyzen's hand improved when the {9-Diamonds} fell on the turn. His opponent led into him, and when Veenhuyzen moved all in, his opponent snap called for the remainder of his chips holding {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}.

The {k-Spades} on the river was no help to the all in player and his tournament is over. Max Veenhuyzen now has over 8,500 in chips.

A No-Show Showdown

We caught the action on the river in a big pot between John MacNaughton and Craig Bergeron. There were roughly 17,000 chips in the pot with the board showing {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {5-Spades} {Q-Spades}. MacNaughton was first to act and checked to Bergeron, who moved all in. MacNaughton made the call for less, a total of 5,025.

"Do you have ace-queen?" Bergeron asked.

"Yes," MacNaughton replied. Incredibly, without waiting to see MacNaughton's cards, Bergeron shipped his own hand into the muck. MacNaughton never did open his hand, surrendering his cards face down as he collected a pot worth 27,000 chips. Bergeron remains in the tournament with about 6,500.

Guzzardi's Got Game

Michael Guzzardi has further added to his ever-growing stack, this time mixing it up with another of Australia's top ranked online players, Daniel Kochan.

The pot was opened preflop to 450 by Kochan from under the gun, and play folded to the button who made the call. Guzzardi, in the big blind, also decided to come along for the ride.

All three players checked the {10-?}{9-?}{8-?} flop, and Guzzardi would be first to fire at the {3-?} turn. Guzzardi bet out 300, which Kochan promptly called and the button folded.

With the river bringing an {a-?}, Guzzardi fired 1,650 and Kochan went into the tank. With 20 seconds to act, Kochan eventaully timed out and 'TheBigSiCkO' was true to form, rolling over {k-?}{2-?} for his winning stone cold bluff.

Guzzardi moves up over 10,000 now and will be a player to look out for later today.

Gorr Toppled By Topakas

David Gorr has been eliminated at the hands of Steve Topakas.

Topakas raised to 600 from the cutoff and Gorr moved all in from the small blind for around 2,400. Topakas made the call.

Gorr: {A-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Topakas: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The board ran out {6-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{4-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}, missing both players to leave Topakas with the best hand. Gorr departed and Topakas moved up to 6,000 chips.
