Dinner Break

Players are now taking a well-earned one-hour dinner break. You get the feeling we still have a long way to go in this one this evening if we are to reach the final table tonight. The 152 remaining players will return at around 8:10 p.m local time.

Sticky Spot for Wonky

Vince Wan eliminated
Vince Wan eliminated
Vince "Wonky" Wan has been eliminated by Mick "Sticky" Guttman.

Wan got the last of his chips all in preflop against Guttman. One small problem though. Guttman held {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} which was dominating his own {a-Spades}{j-Spades}.

Guttman increased his stranglehold on the hand when the flop came {8-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} giving Guttman a flush draw, and further reducing Wan's outs. The {j-Hearts} gave Wan a pair, except it also gave Guttman his heart flush and sent Wan off to the rail.

The river was an insignificant {3-Clubs}. Guttman moves up to 18,000.

Another Bounty for Zmukic

Sam Khouiss - eliminated
Sam Khouiss - eliminated
Vesko Zmukic collected his second bounty of the day at the expense of Sam Khouiss. They were part of a three-way limped pot along with Warwick Mirzikinian. Khouiss shoved all in after Zmukic led out on the {K-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {5-Hearts} flop and had been called by Mirzikinian. Both players called.

On the turn {8-Hearts}, Zmukic moved all in and was snap-called by Mirzikinian. Mirzikinian turned over a flush with {7-Hearts} {4-Hearts} but Zmukic had a bigger flush with {J-Hearts} {9-Hearts}. Khouiss, who tabled {K-?} {9-?}, was drawing dead. Mirzikinian had one shot at a straight flush, but he missed. The river came {4-Diamonds}.

Zmukic now has 24,000 chips and two bounties. Mirzikinian is down to 17,000.

Benson Turns Up The Heat

Gary Benson
Gary Benson
Gary Benson raised to 850 preflop and found himself two callers in the blinds. The flop came down {J-Spades}{2-Spades}{A-Diamonds} and play checked to Benson who fired a continuation bet of 1,700. The small blind folded before the big blind check-raised up to 4,500.

Benson then moved the remainder of his chips into the middle, adding an additional 14,750 to the bet amount. His opponent was pained with the decision and with only twenty seconds to act, he let it go, flashing the {A-Clubs}.

Australian Poker Hall of Fame inductee Benson collects a nice pot on his way to a stack of 26,000 chips.

Mountt Provides Plenty of Action

Martin Comer
Martin Comer
Danny Mountt was very active at his table. Getting somewhat short, he shoved from under the gun with a pair of sevens and was called by Martin Comer's ace-king. A king came on the turn, but Mountt spiked a seven on the river to double up. That hand moved Mountt's count to 12,000.

A few hands later, Mountt was crippled on an {A-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {4-Hearts} board. He moved in with {5-Hearts} {5-Clubs} and his opponent called with {A-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}. The board bricked out, allowing the aces of Mountt's opponent to hold up.

The very next hand after that, Mountt was left with only 1,875 chips and open-shoved from under the gun for 1,875. One opponent re-raised to 4,500 before Martin Comer reraised all in. That cleared out all other players except the all-in Mountt.

Mount: {4-Hearts} {4-Spades}
Comer: {K-Diamonds} {k-Hearts}

The flop came down {6-Spades} {5-Hearts} {5-Clubs}, prompting Comer to ask the dealer, "Put a three down to really make me sweat!" He got his wish when the turn fell {3-Hearts}. Mountt wasn't able to pull off the runner-runner miracle, however. The river {6-Diamonds} sent him to the rail.

Some Crocky Magic

Billy "The Croc" Argyros
Billy "The Croc" Argyros
Billy "The Croc" Argyros raised it up from under the gun to 800. Big-stacked Ron Parsons then moved all in over the top. Crocky made the call for his last 3,025 and threw his bounty tag on the table in a defiant stance.

"Here's my bounty, and here's my aces!" he shouted as he slammed {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds} down on the table.

Parsons held {8-Clubs}{8-Spades} and couldn't spike his set as the board fell {K-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{5-Spades}{9-Hearts}. Crocky doubled to over 8,000 with a wry smile.

Karib Sent Packing

Karib Karib wound up on the short end of a three-way all-in battle against Kelvin Beattie and Van Marcus. Marcus, the shortest of the three players with only 3,400 chips, tabled {A-Clubs} {A-Spades}. Beattie showed {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}, but he had Karib's {A-Diamonds} {8-Spades} covered for the side pot. Nobody improved on a board of all babies, {2-Spades} {6-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}. Marcus therefore tripled up to 13,000; Beattie moved to 9,000; and Karib moved to the rail.

Sherif Doubles with Set Over Set

Van Marcus raised to 900 preflop and both Sherif Derias and Zach Gruneberg made the call.

The flop came {5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and it was checked around. The turn brought the {7-Hearts} and when Grunberg checked, Derias sprung into action, betting 1,700. Grunberg deliberated a moment before announcing he was all in, and at this point Derias almost beat him into the pot with much excitement behind his call.

Grunberg tabled {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and was dissapointed to see Derias flip {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} for a bigger set. The river {3-Spades} offered no help to either player, and Derias doubled through to 17,000. Grunberg now has only 4,500 in front of him.
