Obrestad Eliminates Pampliega

Annette Obrestad
Annette Obrestad
Luis Pampliega got out to a huge chip lead in his Day 1 flight. He wasn't able to translate that into Aussie Millions Main Event cash. Pampliega moved all in preflop for 96,000 after an open-raise. Annette Obrestad was in the small blind and woke up with {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}. She reraised to isolate, and got Pampliega heads up with {9-Diamonds} {9-Spades}. It didn't look good for Pampliega, and it didn't get any better on a flop of {7-Spades} {A-Spades} {8-Diamonds}. He was down to running straight cards, running flush cards, or one of the remaining nines. The turn came {4-Clubs}, taking away all of the running possibilities. The river fell {A-Clubs}, taking away the rest of Pampliega's chips.

Docherty Docked Some Chips by Lechich

Tino Lechich chipping up

On a {10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} flop both Annica Ivert and Tino Lechich checked to David Docherty. Docherty bet out 14,000 and both players called. The turn {2-Hearts} saw Ivert take the lead and bet out 27,500; both Lechich and Docherty both made the call. On the river {j-Clubs} Ivert checked, Lechich fired a 50,000 bet, which Docherty flat-called, allowing Ivert to fold.

Lechich tabled {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a rivered straight, good for the pot as Docherty mucked. Docherty drops to 300,000. Ivert drops to 460,000 and Lechich moves up to 370,000.

Pongrass Flushes Kelly

Tom Pongrass opened with a raise to 7,000 before Kelly Kim popped it up 25,000. John Paul Kelly flat-called, as did Pongrass.

The flop came {3-Spades}{5-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and Pongrass fired out 25,000. Kim folded as Kelly made the call.

The turn was the {2-Clubs} and Pongrass fired again for 70,000. Kelly made the call once more as a huge pot was developing.

The river brought the {K-Hearts} and Pongress let rip with a third barrel worth 100,000. Kelly made the call but mucked when Pongrass revealed {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for the nut flush. With three streets of value, Pongrass flies out to the tournament lead with 568,000 as Kelly slips to 90,000.

Walji Doubles Through Hachem

The action was opened with 6,300 raise by Leonid Cai with Joe Hachem making the call on the button. Ashifamin Walji then moved all in for 25,400 from the button. Cai folded, but Hachem made the call.

Hachem: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}
Walji: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}

The board fell {4-Spades}{J-Hearts}{6-Spades}{A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} to improve Walji to a set for the double-up. He's up to 60,000 with Hachem now on the short stack with 40,000 chips.

Toothpick Tony Takes a Hit

Toothpick Tony has work to do now
Toothpick Tony has work to do now
Popular player Antonis "Toothpick Tony" Kambouris has taken a sizable hit to his stack. Kambouris in the small blind and John Paul Kelly in late position both called a preflop raise from Tom Pongrass. They took a {6-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop that saw Kambouris check to Pongrass, who fired out a bet of 20,000, Kelly called, and then Kambouris moved all in. Pongrass' snap-call all in obviously tipped off Kelly, who folded his hand and the players tabled their cards.

Pongrass with {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} for top set.
Kambouris with {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} for bottom set.

Kambouris would be drawing to the case {5-Clubs} to win the hand, but the turn {j-Hearts} and river {10-Clubs} were not the card he needed, so Kambouris drops to 70,000. Pongrass dragged a 320,000 pot.

King Can't Find a King

Dean McIver has eliminated the short-stacked Michael King from the Main Event.

The chips were in preflop as King's {K-Spades}{J-Spades} was dominated by McIver's {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}. Ironically, King would need a king but it wasn't to be as the board fell {5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs} to send King to the rail. McIver is now up to 140,000 chips.

Comer Busts Yamazaki

On a flop of {J-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{K-Clubs} Naohiko Yamazaki led out for 45,000 before Martin Comer moved all in covering his opponent. Yamazaki made the call with {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} for top pair, top kicker, but he'd run into the set of Comer with {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}.

The turn was the {8-Diamonds} and river the {6-Hearts} and Yamazaki departs as Comer moves up to a healthy 535,000 chips.

Cassidy's Set Eliminates Kruger

David Kruger eliminated
David Kruger eliminated
David Kruger was all in for his tournament life with {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} against Joe Cassidy's {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}.

The race was on and it went Cassidy's way on a board of {4-Spades}{8-Hearts}{J-Spades}{Q-Spades}{A-Diamonds}. Kruger spiked an ace on the river, but it was too late as Cassidy had made his set on the turn to take the pot and eliminate Kruger.

Cassidy is up to 170,000 chips.

Church Doubles Through Khouiss

A tough start for Sam Khouiss
A tough start for Sam Khouiss
Lots of chips are changing hands here in the early going. Andy Church found a much-needed double-up courtesy of Sam Khouiss. Church was a 2-to-1 underdog preflop (when all the chips went in), tabling {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} to Khouiss' pocket queens. The dreaded ace came on a flop of {A-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {6-Spades}. That left Khouiss looking for the case queen. He didn't get it.

Church is up to 74,000 in chips. Khouiss has fewer chips than that -- only about 62,000.
