Raise and Take

Chris O'Donnell dropped some chips after he bet 825 on a {3-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop. His was in position on his opponent who put out a big check-raise. O'Donnell tank-folded, and it was just as well as he was shown {a-Spades}{8-Spades} for top two-pair.

Moments later, on the feature table, it was Jackie Glazier doing the raising. The flop was out as {4-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{j-Hearts} and she raised up to 1,375 after her opponent had c-bet for 600. He called but check-folded to a 2,075 bet on the {3-Clubs} turn.

A Look Back at the 2004 Aussie Millions

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

The 2004 Aussie Millions was a year of growth and awareness as players from outside of Australia traveled to the land down under for the event. Kenna James was one of the Americans who made the trip across the Pacific and found success. James, who is playing in today's field, ended up placing third in that year's Main Event. In the following years, he'd add another final-table appearance to his résumé, and is no doubt looking to make it a trio this year.

A Little Burd Told Him to Call

JP Kelly was sat still, in thought, as he pondered calling a 2,000 bet from Ralph Burd on the river. Kelly started the hand with a raise to 300 from early and was called by a player in the next seat as well as Burd in the small blind.

The flop fell {q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{k-Clubs} and Burd donk-led for 300. Kelly was the only caller to the {7-Diamonds} turn where he bet 1,400 when Burd checked to him. Burd called and then led for 2,000 on the {a-Hearts} river.

Burd's line seem to confuse Kelly, so he took his time before calling with king-jack. Burd tabled the same hand and and they chopped it up.

Grant Levy in The Building

We got our hands on a player list and found Grant Levy. We didn't catch him on our first round but he's definitely playing today. Levy is one of the biggest winners from Australia and interesting enough he has only three cashes outside his home country.

Levy's biggest win came in 2007 when he took down the APPT Sydney Main Event for A$1,000,000 and in total he has won over $1,5 million in live tournaments. He will be sitting in the seat Rupert Elder had yesterday, and if it's a sign Levy will have some big swings today!

Tough Table

Koral Off to a Fast Start

We're just over halfway done with the first level and Tom Koral is off to a great start. In a recent hand, there was about 2,200 in the pot and a board reading {A-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} when Koral checked to his opponent in the cutoff. The later bet 1,300 and after some brief debate, most likely on whether to raise or not, Koral made the call.

The cutoff confidently turned over {A-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, but it was no good against the {Q-Clubs}{10-Hearts} of Koral, who is now up to 45,000.

Familiar Faces and Familiar Plays

  • Annette Obrestad is well known for her aggressive style. She made a raise to 200 from the cut-off and was called by the button and small blind before the big blind three-bet to 700. The Norwegian was put in her place and folded.
  • Sam Capra is playing today, a little more than 12 hours after he won $50,000 AUD for his third place finish in yesterday's Bounties final table. Play the rush!
  • Jonathan Karamalikis won over $88k for his second place finish in the re-buy tournament but busted out of the $100,000 Challaenge yesterday, so I guess you could say that he's chasing his losses here today.
  • British Bracelet winners James Dempsey and JP Kelly are in the house.
